Maui - Road from Makena to Kula

So, I'm going to Maui, planning my trip, and I have an old verison of MS Streets and Trips and it says that "Piilani highway" (SR 31) turns into "Old Makena Rd" and eventually runs into "Kula highway" (SR 37). Additionally it shows that there is a road "Kealakapi Rd" that directly connects the "Piilani highway", near "Keonenai road", to the "Kula highway". Neither Google Earth, Google Maps, Mapquest, or MSN Maps show these roads. Are these roads there? It seems that of these roads aren't there, then, to get anywhere west of kihei or Makena, I'd have to drive north, almost back up to the airport and then drive down the Haleakala highway?

No, the road is not there. Yes, you have to drive up to near Kahului and then head upcountry.

One of things that I didn't do, but wanted to on my recent trip was to visit the lavender farm and the goat cheese producer in Kula. They both sound worth a trip. Next time.

Five years ago, we rented a house in Makena, and the owner lived downstairs. We were wondering the same thing - where were the roads listed on the map? The owner told us that these exist, but are gated and privately owned. They use the road once in a while, with permission, and with someone using a key to get in. So ...maybe they are there, but not for the tourist!
