go to Amazon.com and put in Maui Revealed under books and then drop to the listing of new and used copies. You can buy it new much cheaper than from Amazon itself. Very reliable sellers and they are rated as to how their customers liked the transaction process.

Anna, I am sorry I did not address you question yesterday.

All of the beaches on Maui are public property and public access is required. Many of our beaches are deisgnated as parks and you will find ample parking for these. For others look for the "Beach Access" signs posted between properties and use this route to access the beach.

As for other places that might be off-limits, you will clearly see posted signs, most going so far as to explain why it is posted as such. Also, I'd suggest you consider things like such as where you are parking or the route you are taking to access a site. For instance, the trail to Kaihalulu (Red Sand) Beach in Hana runs adjacent to a Buddhist cemetary. It is extremely disrespectful to trespass in the cemetary. Also be aware of your surroundings, respect the sea, and know that flash flooding can occur at any time in mountain streams and pools. Even if it is sunny and clear where you are, the streams are fed from high on Haleakala and it is not uncommon for water levels to rise swiftly and dramatically, sweeping people away with it.

We want you to enjoy your visit here and live to return again and again. Maui has so many wonderful local, state and national park lands, with endless trails and waterfalls and swimming areas, that you can easily forego the controversial sights and still have a truly wonderful, safe and memorable visit.

Malama pono.

Thank you heretoday. I will keep all of that in mind when I visit (9 days and counting).

Just out of curiosity, besides Kaihalulu beach, what are some of the other controversial sights? Bear in mind I'll be taking a guided tour of Hana, and I would hope the guided tours would not trespass on private or sacred land.

You can access Kaihalulu beach just fine if you stay on the trail. The trail does not cut through the cemetary. Waioka Pool is closed off, so no worries about that now. The guided tour, I am sure will not put you in harm's way or send to trespass.
