Maui-Paia-Airport noise

Planes take off from Kahalui into the wind. which because of the trades is usually blowing out of the east.
Paia is a few miles from the airport and not under the flight path.I can not recall ever hearing any planes when there.
Flights are rather infrequent and not a noise problem in any resort area.
My question is,why are you staying in Paia? It's a cool little town and good for a lunch stop and some shopping, but unless you're a wind surfer I wouldn't stay there.

Joe,
Eli told the reason he wants to stay in Paia.
He's trying to avoid the mega resorts and condo areas. I think Paia is a perfect place to stay to avoid that mess and still be close to the water...unless you go all the way to Hana!
Eli,
I've only visited the Paia area a couple times, but I've not heard plane noise in the area on either visit.

We used to love going to Maui and staying at Maleaea Bay. No more. The airplanes fly right over the condos on their way in to the airport. All night long. Especially the 5 a.m. mail plane which sounds like it's going to land on the roof. No more Maui for me!

Eli, we tried to do the same thing - avoid the high rises and condos. We lucked out in finding a great house to rent, in the Makena area south of Wailea. Snorkeling was fabulous right off the property, and it was in a quiet, residential area. Here's the website (owner lives downstairs but definitely left us alone):

We love Paia and spent a couple of weeks there in August. There are some great local beaches, fun restaurants, great drives, and a lot more character than the more heavily touristed areas can offer. I love an early morning drive up through the pineapple fields to Makawao for malasadas and cream puffs at the Komada store. An sunset walk at Baldwin is also lovely. We love breakfast at Anthony's in Paia, buy leis at the little grocery next door, and do our grocery shopping at the funky but well-stocked Mana Foods. Airport noise has never been a problem and you have great access to the Hana Highway, Huelo, Haiku and upcountry. I say go for it or split your time between a resort area and Paia.

My question, "Why are you staying in Paia" was not rhetorical.
I like Paia, a friend was born there. As a tourist,I am not aware of specific housing, beaches or amentities in Paia which would make me choose it as a base in Maui.
It's windward,so snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing on the beach after 12:00 are out.
There are many other places on the island to be away from resorts and condos.
Why Paia?
