Maui Body Surfing

Going to Maui in early March, any recommendations on the best body surfing beaches would be appreciated.

The whole drive from the airport to Kanapali often has body surfing. Just pull over to the area with the action.

Message: Can't remember the name now, but get Maui Revealed - whatever beach it is that they say is the best for bodysurfing is fabulous, as I recall. It's just past the town of Hana - when I was there in July, the waves were fabulous (and I am a body-surfing conniseur - sp? - so I can promise you that these waves are excellent).

I believe brooklyngal is refering to Hamoa Beach, just past Hana. The beach is absolutely beautiful, though you need to be very careful of the shorebreak, among other water hazards, especially in winter. I believe Maui Revealed also recommends highly Napili Bay for body surfing, though again I'd be chary of any activity in the water there in winter. I attempted to snorkel there in late November and the water beat me up badly, much to the amusement of my dear children (and likely my wife). A surfer I spoke with told me a wave broke his board there a few days later. You might wish to visit the southside of the island, such as Kihei or Wailea, Keawakapu or Ulua perhaps.

I believe Maui Revealed also recommends Kamaole beach in Kihei for body surfing which might be good in March if surf is calmer in south. We are also going in March!

We are going to Maui (Kaanapali) the 1st part of March also.. this time we are taking our two sons. Husband and I went the 1st week of December and the weather was wonderful. We went to Big Beach and saw a few people body surfing. On Little Beach just over the lava cliff from Big Beach we did see people body surfing there.. Looked like alot of fun. I think Maui Revealed even lists these two beach for body surfing..but beware...Little Beach is clothing optional.

I did some body surfing at Big beach in Makena(sp) end of the road past Waliea(sp again) we went in March the waves were huge. It was allot of fun but I think you should be a strong swimmer or keep it short cause it really wore me out after about 20 minutes awesome beach too. We're going in March again so I'll go look there but if I go in... we'll see. also sand got everywhere on me, no showers, still fun
