Maui & Kauai, whale watching - April/May

We just got back a few days ago (yes I am still planning on writing a more detailed report!)
however..we are already planning to go back to Hawaii in April/May. (not easy from NY!)

Probably the last week of April and first week of May.
We will split the stay between Maui and Kauai, most likely something like 8 nights in Maui (Wailea) and 5 nights in Kauai (north shore - Princeville)
will we still be able to see whales???

if so, where will we see more?
thank you!!!

Looking forward to the extended Trip Report and recall reading that the greatest number of whales is found between Maui and Lanai, though end of April sounds late for whalewatching.

As long as no hurricanes are around through October, we have seen impressive humpbacks close to rivaling what we've seen in Hawaii if you don't mind travelling to Plymouth, Mass.

April is actually a really good month for whale activity. By this time the babies are juneviles and they very active, preparing for their trip to Alaska. The adults spend a vbit iof time teaching the juveniles to communicate on the long swim back,so you will see a lot swimming up and back with tail and pec slapping going on a they practice their stuff. It's kind humpback middle school.

Here is the Pacific Whale Foundation sighting log from this past spring:

The Pacific Humpback Whale season runs until mid-May (though the whales will leave on their own calendar). Pacific Whale Foundation sponsors an Aloha to the whales celebration then. I've seen many humpbacks off Maui (west and south) in late April. The whales give birth in shallow water. As the "babies" mature and develop their swimming skills, the whales move further from shore, making them more difficult to spot. They are magnificent, making quite a splash when they breach, turn, slap. Wailea is a great place from which to view them.
