Martha's Vineyard with Children...
I've been to Chatham in Cape Cod a few years ago for a week and am now thinking of renting a home on Martha's Vineyard. I've heard GREAT things about it....but know nothing about the island. Is there a recommended neighborhood? Ideally, we'd like to be close to town and ocean beaches (walking distance not mandatory.. but would like to be centrally located). Any info would be greatly apprecaiated. We have 2 children -- ages 7 and 3.

Hi jennymary,
MV is a great place to vacation and it is certainly child friendly. My SIL is very familiar w/ it as he used to work for a construction company there. We also have been there and toured several islands. It is also a very popular and highly booked vacation spot so you should find something ASAP to book. Be aware that it is also very expensive there but you may find something in your price range. You also

Check out Trip Advisor Rentals also.
Good luck and if you do book something be prepared for waits in restaurants, etc. My daughter & SIL go there and it's crazy in the summer. However, it's a great vacation spot.

emalloy, forget to mention this, good point. Here is Steamship Authority link w/ schedules, etc. If you are planning to bring your car you can check to see what availability there is. You would need to make an advance reservation for your vehicle and it fills up quickly.

Thank you all! This information is very helpful. Is there a specific neighborhood or part of the island I should look into for a rental? We've had success with VBRO in the past and will probably go that route again.
