Marriotts in New Jersey

I can't comment on the Teaneck location but agree that the Newark airport is not a great choice. You're in the midst of a commercial-industrial "wasteland" in a sense and not that convenient to NYC if you plan to go in for the day and return to hotel in the evening. Secaucus or Harmon Cove area is a better choice. There is a Marriot Courtyard under construction next to the Newport Pavonia PATH train station. It's an upscale commercial/residential area on the waterfront facing lower Manhattan and the train takes only 10 minutes to reach Midtown or Wall Street. If that facility is open it would be a good choice - there's also a Doubletree hotel a block away that has been open for a few years - another good choice.

The Marriott in Teaneck is pretty nice. It is in an office complex set of buildings called GlenPointe and was designed, under previous ownership (Loew's), as an upscale hotel for people doing business there. It is right off the highway that is only a few minutes from the George Washington Bridge (depending on traffic of course). It's a good place to stay. Head and shoulders above Newark.

The Coutyard that's under construction is technically in Jersey City but it's in the very upscale waterfont area known as Newport-Pavonia (where Henry Hudson moored the Half Moon overnight before making his legendary journey up the river that now bears his name. Thre are several large, very sleek new apartment buildings, a Starbucks, a waterfront restaurant, the Newport Financial Tower and the Simon shopping mall all located within a few hundred yards of this location (and best of all the PATH station). I haven't been over that street in several months but suspect it must be schedule for opening by late summer or early fall at the latest.

Newark is a pit, particularly where the airport hotels are. My husband was attending a class at the airport Sheraton, so I stupidly went with him. Big mistake. There's absolutely nothing to do out there, and you have to drive quite a ways to get anywhere. Granted, it only took us about 15-20 minutes to drive into Manhattan on a Sunday morning, but then we were stuck in traffic for 2 hours trying to get out of the city on Sunday afternoon.
Unless you're staying in Newark just to fly in or out, or visiting family, suck it up and stay in Manhattan. The Marriott in Times Square is wonderful, and you can't beat the location with a big stick.

The Glenpointe Marriott in Teaneck is extremely convenient for getting into NYC. You are a few miles away from the George Washington Bridge or the tunnels. And if you don't have a car there is a bus stop right outside the hotel that will take you to 42nd St Port Authority in NYC. The hotel complex has nothing else for your entertainment but if you need to be, you are close to residential areas, movie theatres, restaurants, and shopping malls galore. Feel free to email me directly if you want more info.
