March weather in San Francisco??

Can anyone tell me how I can research what the weather is like in March in San Francisco? or perhaps tell me first hand what to expect? We'd like to go then if it's not cold and foggy. Thanx in advance for any info.

Live in the Bay area and can tell you that March is our transition month. You would expect early March to have a pretty good chance of still being rainy. The later in the month, the better for no rain, but this year we had rain well into April. It's never particularly cold--probably highs in the low to mid 50s in March. Sorry, to be vague, but that's the best answer anyone can give about the month of March. Keep in mind that there is a lot to do in San Francisco that doesn't depend on having wonderful weather.

I also live in the San Francisco Bay area. Kam pretty well hit it on the head. March is still in our rainy season but towards the tail end. However one never knows. This year, March was very wet. It kind of made up for the very dry months earlier in the rainy season. Sorry that I can't be of more help but averages mean nothing. The only months of the year that I will predict warm weather is September and October. However nobody knows. We had a hot spell just a short while ago.

Just come here and enjoy. The weather is all part of the character of our great city.

Kam and SF Sally: thanks for the info. Just to explain: We were in SF years ago and loved it; we're aware of its charms. But we live in NH and one of the reasons for leaving here in March is the dreary weather (somewhat restricted in when we go because of my husband's business and busy season during more desirable times of the year). We really love just walking around cities and looking at the architecture and walking from one destination to another (or using public transport) - being outside without being plagued by insects (a NH specialty) and sitting at outdoor cafes watching passersby, etc. So, although I know there are loads of things to do in SF, our enjoyment would be greatly enhanced by sunshine. Again, thanx.

Gail, Don't think there's anywhere in California that could guarantee sunshine in March! My husband has a business meeting at the beginning of March each year. So far, they've been sucessful in Phoenix and Mexico but it's a tough month. The great weather months here are September and October and summer is good once the morning fog burns off. You'd have a better chance in Southern CA--how about San Diego?

Kam: I think you hit it: March is a tough month. It seems like all the interesting, walkable places (in the US) aren't very sunny then. San Diego probably has great weather but it didn't seem like an interesting place (for our purposes) when we were there visiting relatives a number of years ago. I wonder what New Orleans is like then? More research, I guess...Thanx again.

Gail:

I live in San Diego. It is not the city that you saw several years ago. Downtown San Diego is completely changed and is now a very enjoyable and a great city for walking. Of course it is not nearly as interesting as San Francisco ( very few cities are ) but it is not half bad.

Some other thoughts---what about San Antonio? Do you think Santa Fe would be too cold?
