Mansions on Long Island, NY

Going to LI for a wedding. We would like to tour some of the Gold Coast Mansions. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I don't think any are open to the public. Old Westbury Gardens gardens can be toured, but not the house to my knowledge. http://www.oldwestburygardens.org/cal_05.htm

Sagamore Hill, Teddy Roosevelt's estate can be toured. http://www.nps.gov/sahi/index.htm

Old Westbury Gardens features the Phipps estate, Westbury House, which is indeed open for tours. (My Mom has been a docent giving tours of the house for 15 years.)

Here's a website with a few others that are open to the public:

The mansions on Long Island nowadays are really McMansions - lots in Great Neck - helps if you speak Persian.

mclaurie,

You're welcome. I liked that link when I found it--more mansions than I realized.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We went to NY this weekend, but got tied up with family events and didn't have much time for sightseeing, but we plan on using the suggestions this summer.
