In the next weeks I am going to book a room for 8 night in this hotel in October. I am a 26 years old female coming from Italy alone so I would like to know if someone has already booked there or just knows something about it. It's not my first time in NYC but maybe I'll ask you something about what to do in the city!

You didn't say the name of the hotel, unless "Manhattan Centre Hotel" is the name (?)

I just googled it and see that IS the name of the hotel. I don't know the hotel, but it gets very very good reviews on Trip Advisor. 92% out of 218 reviewers recommend it.

I must admit this is a new one on me - but apparently they just changed from the Rockefeller Center Hotel - which I also never heard of. I w]ould go to tripadvisor and read the reviews carefully. the location is certainly central - but don;t have a clue about the hotel.

(Note if most of the positive reviews are from European, who generally expect less from a hotel than Americans. Also make sure the reviews are recent.)

thank you everyone, you're right, I didn't mention the hotel name in the post, just on the title, sorry!
I've read the tripadvisor reviews and I think I'll book this hotel, it has a wonderful location and it has one of the lowest prices on expedia.it, in combination with the flight!I think that the only negative reviews (i also read them on booking.com) are about the lobby (it seems to be little, but it's not a problem), the elevators (there are only 2 elevators so this can take a few minutes more to wait...not a problem for me) and the sizes of the rooms but I'll travel alone so this won't be a problem!

I forgot to say that I've also checked the origin of the people who reviewed the hotel, there are Europeans but Americans too, and both happy with their choice!Right now, the newest review is dated 4th of May

I think it's a pretty good option. Check the travelers photos on the review page on tripadvisor. You should also check buying air & hotel separately.

I am monitoring some airlines companies but the problem is that with expedia, flight+hotel is more or less 2200 euros. If I check (for example) a british airways flight, is more or less 600 euros, the hotel is 2000 and something..it is more than 2200...I am still trying to understand what is better!

All I was saying is if you book air & hotel separately, you usually have more choices of hotels (some hotels aren't offered in air/hotel pkgs.) and you can sometimes do better that way. You also don't have to pay it all up front. You pay for the airfare and usually hotel gets paid when you check out if you book directly with the hotel. I like Kayak for checking airfare and they also list hotels. I don't know if they have an Italian version. (I know the UK version is kayak.co.uk) They often have a fare chart on the top left corner of the page after you've done a search that shows which days in a month are cheaper and whether the current prices being quoted are more or less than they've been.

I don't know what city you fly in/out in Italy but checking Rome, 600e sounds very good for airfare if it's a nonstop flight. (I hate having to change planes).

i've seen kayak (there's an italian version too) but it has prices similar to the airlines websites..on Delta Airlines website i've found a good 580 something, it's not bad, I think it's one of the lowest!I'll fly from Milan, yes 600 is a good airfare but I don't want to know the prices for december!!!!If in October is 600, in December it will be really high!One of the problems with expedia is that you have to pay all the price...anyway, I think i'll go to a travel agency to see if maybe they have something convenient!

Kayak should have prices similar to the airlines' own. It's a place to check all the prices in one location! I'm not sure I understand your comment about Dec. What I'm saying about the fare chart is, if the price now is 600e to go in Oct. but 3 months ago it was 700e and before that even higher, that tells you it's a good price now! But I can't get a fare chart for Milan-NYC. The one I saw was for Rome.

You can check the travel agent but make sure they don't try to sell you something you don't want! Don't make any quick decisions without checking hotel reviews.

I just thought that 600e for October is a rally high price, I thought it was a quiet time of the year, that's why I said that about the prices of December!but maybe the problems given by the volcano in Europe are rising the prices!

elena, October is VERY pricey in New York, always. It's not quiet time of year at all -- that would be January and February, and maybe August.

I thought it was pricey only in the second half of the month, with Halloween and the beginning of november...anyway now I know when I won't be back in the city eheheh

elena1983, hotels (and airfare) in NYC are usually pricey because of business travelers, not vacationers. September - December is the highest price time of the year, not summer which has more tourists. Prices are somewhat lower right before Christmas because there are fewer conferences, meeting, and business travel in general. There are exceptions such as the weekend of the NYC marathon which is a tourism rather than business driven event that clogs the hotels and pushes rates sky high. Halloween probably has little effect on hotel prices.
