Be Live Hotel - Riviera Maya - Definitely NOT a 4-Star Hotel

Not Impressed with the BeLive Hotel in Riviera Maya! The rooms needed severe upgrades (I had to jiggle the lock every time I went into my room), the food was just so so and the staff could use some lessons on customer service. Would not recommend any of my friends and family to stay here. The pictures looked nice online, but trust me - don't believe the hype! Between the mosquitos and the flies on the beach I was ready to come home after 3 days! I guess the rating system is very different in Mexico than it is anywhere else in the world. Next time I'll pay extra and stay at a real 4-start hotel!

Welcome to Fodor's forums.

Sorry about your bad experience. Yes it's true the Mexico hotel 'star' system is not equivalent standards to the one used in the US.

I don't think you can blame a hotel for mosquitos or flies on the beach though. What would you have them do about that?

I've just read the Tripadvisor reviews and this place charges less than $140 all inclusive for two people (plus kids under 12 are free).

Reviewers that loved the place had lower expectations and seemed to accept that for $140 a night you get what you paid for.

I recommend that you do a little more research (googling hotel reviews takes about 30 seconds) and you'll be less disappointed on your next vacation.

I thought about that too. Did you read reviews about this resort before you booked it? Perhaps that would have taken some of the surprise/disappointment out of it. Trip Advisor is a great resource for reading hotel reviews before you make a decision.

Tripadvertizer recent reviews would have told you to go elsewhere that is an old crap hotel tonnes better on sites
like www.cancun.bookit.com

Perhaps the lesson is to read reviews on many sites carefully

and believe the bad ones... all positive reviews are usually

plants and faked by owners on TA.

Flies and mosquitos hang out at five star resorts too.
