Mandina's?
Still working on my restaurant list for upcoming trip to New Orleans. We're definitely going to Commanders on our anniversary and have 3 other dinners free.
Currently considering Mr. B's, Irene's and JacqueImo's but now I'm thinking I'd like to add something old school New Orleans into the mix, and have heard good things about Mandina's. Should I add it to my list? If so, which restaurant do I take off?

Hope this helps:
I would save Mandina's for lunch when you can take the Canal streetcar and get off on your own. I would go early when they open at 11 am. It's not fancy, just good cooking. They have several types of soups including turtle soup that are favorites, in addition to their poor boy sandwiches, and daily specials. Their red beans and rice on Mondays are some of our locals' favorites. Mandina's is within walking distance of Angelo Brocato's so you can walk over and have a canoli or gelato for dessert, and take the street car back.
Irene's is only open for dinner, and not sure about Jaques Imo's. Mr. B's is a more upscale bistro, and not to be missed, for lunch or dinner.

Mandina's is definitely a lunch place. I always go for the po-boy sandwiches, usually with fried shrimp or fried oysters; but they have the original classic po-boy with roast beef. The sauces on the po-boys are almost as good as the fillings.
Jacques-Imo's, like Irene's, is only open for dinner. As for Mr. B's, I'm not a big fan but perhaps others have more of a taste for their cuisine. Good luck.

Commanders and Mr. B's are owned by the same family, so I would skip Mr. B's. Jacques-Imo's is excellent, but they do not accept reservations. Mandina's is not fancy and great food. Another great idea is La Crepe Nanou (dinner only and no reservations). Really, in New Orleans, you can't miss.

Jacques Imos will take reservations for parties of 5 or more. We ask friends to join us just so we get 5! The wait can be quite long.
The chef (Austin Leslie) is now at Pampy's on Broad. Jacques Imos is not quite as good as before his departure.
