Mandalay Bay, Worth the money?

Is it worth the price? Any inside information you can offer is appreciated. For example, how early does one have to get to the pool/beach area to get a lounge chair, Sun-Wed.? Thanks

I never stayed at Mandalay Bay, but heard nice things about it. How much are you paying? I received a email special from them for $89.00 rooms. Call and tell them you got an email special promo code PSPCL06-QM see if that rate is available for when you want to go.

Definitely worth it at $89 a night! You can take the tram from there to the Excalibur. Then walk across to the MGM and pick up the tram at the rear of the casino to take you down to Bally's to see some of the other casinos like Bellagio and Paris.

NYNY is also worth a visit, if not just for the NY style pizza and cheesecake.

I know this is an isolated incident, but it's funny and gross so what the hell? A large group of friends, about 18 of us, flew down to Vegas on weekend for some fun. We ate at a restaurant at the Mandalay, House of Blues, maybe? Anyway, friend found a fingernail in his drink. Mgr. comped us free drinks?!?! We didn't take him up on his offer though, can you blame us? Anyway, this left a bad tast in our mouths, no pun intended, and we won't stay there again!

The Mandalay Bay is a very nice hotel- just be prepared to be nickel & dimed to death once you check in. $27.00 to use the gym, fees for any extra amenities at the pool and the room service menu is sky high. $3.00 for an 8 ounce glass of iced tea or coke. A buck for local calls. They get you in with the cheap room rate and than after that you pay through the nose. All in all it's a nice hotel but just be careful as it get expensive real fast.

That's a decent rate for Mandalay Bay. I like the hotel a lot. Pool area is very nice - Sun-Wed I don't think you'll have much of a problem getting a lounge chair - especially if you're out there before noon.
As far as the previous post about getting nickeled and dimed - all hotels in Vegas will charge to use the fitness facilities, extra amenities at the pool, etc. That is not specific to Mandalay Bay. By the way, the $27 the poster refers to for use of the gym also allows you to use the spa, which is very nice (whirlpools, sauna, steamroom, lounging area, showers, etc.)

Hi,

I got the $89 for 16-21st June.
Practically all hotels/casinos on the strip will charge in the $20's for the spa/sauna/gym.

As for soft drinks I pop into the local Walgreens (beside the MGM)and buy six packs of soft drinks and water and use the ice bucket-much cheaper than buying from the shop in the casino or room service.

We stayed at the Mandalay a couple of summers ago. How many in your room? They do charge for extra people (more than 2)in the room, at the time it was $35 pp per night, so our two kids made the room rate $179. (Only way to get into the pool area is with a room key). And the bathroom was decorated (beautifully) with all glass, so only one person could use it at a time (no privacy in the shower). So for a couple, it's great. Not practical for a "family".
Pool area was completely and totally packed, it was early August, it was 107 degrees. I remember literally running into the water, throwing our stuff on the ground as we went, so we wouldn't burn our feet. There were no available lounge chairs, only cafe tables, but of course this was high season. XXX is right about the trams. I copied a post from this board, which showed a way to visit 7 hotels without walking outside in the heat (except briefly). We spent most of a day following this route.

I stayed there is a suite one time for a special occasion. I did NOT do my research however and should have stayed at the four seasons within the same hotel. Anyway as far as suites go the room was on the lower end of the suites I had had in Vegas. Better then Ballys but not as good as Rio. The food there was pretty good especially the buffet which was very good and I wasnt expecting much. The elevators were woefully slow. Not enough of them for the amount of people. Bright cheerful casino and a fun feel to the place. The scent they pipe in though got old after the first day or two. Now on to the reason I will NEVER stay at MB part again. The kids here were out of control at the pool. I mean Circus Circus out of control. Now I like kids and am not one screaming to have them banned from vegas but it was just the sheer volume of them and with the many pools there not one was adults only. IT felt like a water park. I just remember looking over the gate to the serenity of the four seasons pool and kicking myself for it.

I completely agree. We just went there this weekend and spent almost $400 a room. Not worth it at all. Took a tour over to the 4 seasons and loved it.
Next time we are trying the Venetian.
The only thing MB has that was nice was their spa.

I would rather stay at either Bellagio or Venetian. Both run promos all of the time -- keep checking their web site. $129 is usually a typical promo for Bellagio.

If you can't get a good rate, call them directly and say that you and your husband just retired, and would like to start coming to Las Vegas often, but have never been, and want to find a nice hotel that you can come back to often. They should give you a good rate.

Or, if total honesty is your policy, then email the hotels, asking for more info, and give them your home address as well as your birthdates if they ask. The offers to come visit these hotels (at great prices) will start pouring in via US Mail. You'll also get invited for your birthday.

I just stayed at Mandalay Bay last month (May 2002). It is a very nice hotel. Our room was somewhat spacious and clean. The pool is great but was very crowded, however, i stayed there Friday to Monday. Overall, I would highly recommend the hotel.

I loved Mandalay and will defintly go back.Monday was the busiest pool day it seemed. By 11 you couldn't get a lounge chair. However the previous day, Sunday we didn't get out there till after 12 and got a lovely spot. We kind of cheated one day, went out there @9 dropped some things on a chair and didn't come back for an hour. As for the children at the pool they seemed to just stay in the wave pool or the lazy suzanne raft pool. I don't think I saw any child in the other 2 smaller pools. There are so many lifeguards that if anyone got out of hand they immediatly got the whistle blown at them. Be warned that there isn't much shade. I wish they had umbrellas to put up. I'm sure if they did you would have to pay for them. The tubes or rafts are $20 a day. All in all I loved the hotel. Oh and the spa was great. I think $27 is a little excessive if you just want to work out though.
