Maine's White Barn Inn or Cape Arundel Inn for dining

I think we're staying at Captain Lord Mansion for our trip in July. Now I'm trying to decide on whether our big splurge for a meal should be at White Barn Inn or Cape Arundel Inn in Kennebunkport Maine. Both have gotten great reviews. We're celebrating an anniversary so I want something super! Thanks in advance.

White Barn is too formal and expensive for me. Love Cape Arundel though!

How formal is too formal? I don't mind getting dressed up once in awhile but prefer to keep it simple. How is the food at White Barn Inn?

Both are fabulous - but for an "occasion" and for the "experience", I'd recommend the White Barn Inn.

I'm looking for an "experience", just hope the menu is friendly for someone who doesn't eat seafood like my hubby.

Elaine: Surely, you would agree that there's nothing worse than arriving at a much anticipated dining destination to find that there nothing truly appealing to YOU on the menu.

But, you're in luck. Even though the menu changes weekly at the White Barn Inn, you can peruse same at their website.

I just checked the menu for this week and I think my hubby could survive on what's being served. Maybe I'll order for him so he doesn't get turned off by some of the ingredients. I love trying new and odd sounding combinations so I'm fine. I bet if my husband gets a few drinks in him it will all taste good. How far in advance does one need to make a reservation I wonder.

Hi, Elaine!
You've made a great choice. July is peak season, so you'll need to make the reservation a couple months in advance. If this is during the 4th of July weekend, it wouldn't hurt to call now. If it's too early, they'll tell you when you can call back.
I think you'll really enjoy your meal, and the whole dining experience at the WBI. It's very "special occasion," and the food is just exquisite.

If you're still wondering about all this, I'd recommend checking out Hurricaine. The food is positively awesome. Not quite up to the atmosphere of White Barn or Cape Arundel, but one terrific culinary experience.
