Luxor or Mandalay Bay?

Planning on 4 days in Vegas mid to late March 2002 - any comments on these two properties?

I have seen both hotels, and if your looking for a nice, upscale, fun hotel, its Mandalay Bay for sure! They also have the worlds largest rum bar, if your into that,LOL. The only problem I have with that hotel is it's location. While it is on the strip it is too far from the happening central area.

I stayed at Luxor recently and it was great. There is a walkway to Mandalay (enclosed).

I would save some $ and stay at Luxor. Then lose it at the tables

MB is great...more upscale, more expensive, etc.

As Mike said, there is a walkway between Luxor and MB as they are owned by the same company.

Luxor's rooms are just as good...stay in the tower for sure. See Blue Man Group at Luxor, order your tix now online. If you want MB's nightlife take the walkway to get there as it takes about 5 minutes.

Don't worry about strip location. You can tram to Excalibur, walk over to NYNY and MGM, etc.

I would check out the room rates between the two and make a decision. My guess would be that Luxor is much cheaper and that you could probably get a free upgrade to a jacuzzi suite easier at Luxor.

Agreed, Mandalay Bay is much nicer, but Luxor is probably cheaper. Depends on what your priorities are. In addition to the walkway connecting the two you can also take the tram. MB is the southernmost hotel on the Strip; it's practically on the runway at McCarran Int'l Airport. As far as food, though, I'd definitely recommend the buffet at MB, which I think is the best in town -- it's just amazing. I don't think the one at Luxor is very good. (I've never had any luck gambling at either of them, by the way -- at that end of the Strip I've always done best at the Tropicana).

Thanks for the input - we stayed at Treasure Island several years ago, before the newest properties were built, so I am aware of where MB & Luxor are located generally (stopped inside Luxor briefly). Am thinking of seeing Blue Man Group & Cirque de Solei's "O" performances - how far ahead should I reserve? Any hints for good seats, or are they all good? Anything else "new" you wouldn't miss?
Also - choices for good seafood? Thanks for your help!!!
