Ludlow

We are still looking for accommodation for our final weeks trip to Vermont. Our preferences are quiet area, scenic, plenty of opportunities for hiking/walking and good views. Does anyone have any thoughts on Ludlow or Lake Salem. At the moment Lake Eden is the top of our list. Thank you.

Ludlow is a small ski/mill town with several dining options. The surrounding countryside is very pretty. Actually, all of your choices will be rural, scenic, and quiet, with plenty of hiking opportunities. Lake Salem is in the Northeast Kingdom area, which is very rural - it may be a little too quiet for some.

Thank you for your response. It is so difficult trying to book somewhere you have no knowledge of when you are based in the UK. We have been to the north west areas and Canada twenty so times, this is new territory for us. We have booked house rentals on the Maine coast and New Hampshire mountains so Vermont is our last stop. We leave the UK on 10th Sept and return 8th Oct.

Ludlow ,in the last thirty years or so, has gone from a small, quiet mill town to a bustling ski community. It can become quite mobbed with tourists during foliage season, so book ahead. Route 100, which you can catch just north of the village, takes you past Plymouth, where you can tour the Coolidge estate, and numerous ponds and lakes.

Keep in mind that mill towns are not charming and quaint like many other small towns in Vermont. I wouldn't choose Ludlow.

Thank you for that advice. I think we are going to settle on a property on Lake Eden. It is fairly close to Stowe, which looks like a nice place to walk around and Jay isn't too far away. All other advise is very welcome. Thank you.
