Luaus in Wailea?
Which luau would you recommended in Wailea? Has anyone tried the luau at the Renaissance since that's where we will be staying? Which restaurants should we definetely go to in Maui? We'll only be there for four nights. Appreciate any advice.

Joy I can't answer your specific question but I'm going to Maui in Sept.and have been doing some research on various things to see and do.Every thing that I've found leads me to believe that the Old Lahaina Luau is the top one on the Island and if you have the use of a car you may want to consider that one. Also I've discovered a discount card(not available on the island, get it before you go)that gives you a discount of 10-25% on virtually any activity on Maui. The card is issued by the Maui Activity Owners Association, the cost is $20 and will cover up to 4 people. As an example I've prebooked the Old Lahaina Luau and the Trilogy Discover Lanai snorkle cruise(which is rated as the #1 activity on Maui)with a total savings for 4 of $158.49,not bad for a $20 investment. The Activity Owners Association has a web sight and if you're interested run a search and you can purchase a card on line or call their 800 number.Enjoy your trip !!

Hi Joy, You will love the Renaissance, I'm sure. However, the only thing not rated highly there is their luau, when compared to others on the island, according to most travel books. I've stayed there three times, and loved it, but never tried the luau because of what I'd read.
I did try the Marriott Luau in Kaanapali - Not Good! Charlie is right - you hear many, many good things about the Old Lahaina Luau. In fact, I've heard so many good things that I'm going to try it next time, even though I think, as a rule, luaus are overpriced. You should try to get a discount (AAA, AARP, etc. or somehow).
My favorite restaurant on Maui is "A Pacific Cafe - Kihei", right down the road from Wailea. Also, you can't beat the wonderful breakfast buffet at Renaissance in the Palm Court, the Maui Onion there for the best onion rings & sandwiches, and the Palm Court is also excellent for dinner; I like to eat outside, and the Mai Tais are great. Other restaurants we like: Roys - Kahana, Avalon - Lahaina, The Fish Company - Lahaina, Greek Bistro - Kihei, Hula Grill - Kaanapali!
Have a fabulous trip! Aloha!

Hi, Joy!
I recently returned from my first trip to Maui and had the pleasure of staying in Wailea at the Outrigger Resort. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there, including the luau that they offer. I also took advantage of the Maui Activity Owners Association and saved a bundle for the mere $20 investment. Actually, the Outrigger luau was offered at half price, savings of $31 per person, through the AOA. You definitely need to check out the AOA of Maui. The best part, in my opinion, is not actually the gold card, but the half-price tickets, which is a separate kind of offer. Each month different activity owners give tickets to the AOA, in a limited number, and are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis to gold card members. This is how I understand it, anyway. I saved $31 x3 for the Outrigger luau, which was a great show with excellent food and a beautiful setting right next to the ocean, and I saved $57 x2 for the Maui Mountain Cruisers sunrise bike ride down Mt. Haleakala.
I hope you have a wonderful time in Maui. I certainly did!!!
