Looking for Upscale Vacation Rental in Carmel

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a wonderful vacation rental in Carmel or nearby? On or near the water would be ideal, but Carmel Valley, the Highlands and the Village are also fine. A place that takes clean, well-behaved dogs would be a plus. Rental period is flexible -- between a few days and a few weeks later this fall. I checked out vrbo.com, but didn't find a match. Thanks for any suggestions.

How upscale? Stonepine is beautiful and VERY upscale. I don't know that they take pets, though.

You might want to check with the vacation rental department of this company -- highly respected within the local community:

We like Doris Day's place:

The rooms are great, afternoon teas are the best.

Thanks for the replies. I was actually looking for a home to rent, rather than a room. I'm from this area, so don't usually stay at a hotel (though Stonepine is very nice). I'm looking for a short-term rental for friends visiting with with family. Probably working with a realtor or checking the Herald is the best way to go.

In Carmel Valley there is a place called Los Laureles Lodge which has regular hotel rooms but also has a 3-bedroom house with kitchen, living room (with fireplace) and dining room. They call it Hill House because it is situated on the side of the hill just behind the main building. It has a swimming pool and restaurant. We've stayed here many times and the property is very popular for weddings. We've rented the house before but in the summer it's hard to get because of all the wedding parties. The standard rooms are quite spartan. Better to take the house or if that's not available, the Vanderbilt Cottage. I believe the property used to be the Vanderbilts summer home. We love the place and come back year after year.
