Looking For Upscale Family Resort
I need a little help. I am looking for an upscale family type resort in Arizona to spend several days during the Easter break. Not really particular about location, although something close to Grand Canyon would be ideal. The perfect place will have a upscale accomodations, nice spa, and kid friendly pools with slides and the like.
Do such an animal exist? Also, can someone give me as idea as to what I would be looking at temperature-wise?

This isn't close to the Grand Canyon, but Ventana and La Paloma resorts in Tucson are exquisite. El Conquistador is another one I would suggest that you look into. I do not recall that any have slides, etc. . . though. We didn't have children at that time. All have pools, etc. . . I think it's the Ventana that has a "swim up" bar. . .pretty cool! Golf courses at all 3 as well as gorgeous views! If you want to take the kids for a fun day at the Breakers. . .a water slide park, they'd love that! But, it's not at the hotel. There are also many horse trails in the area and other fun things!

Try Enchantment Resort near Sedona, take a look at http://www.enchantmentresort.com/
Easter is in March, and temps will be quite cool, low 60s F in Sedona, mid 70s in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Take a look at weatherbase.com and worldclimate.com. Grand Canyon could easily have snow and will be cool to cold, and the north rim is still closed until April.

I think you'd be better off staying in North Scottsdale at one of the resorts and then if you wanted to go to the Grand Canyon, take a day and night to do so. You are 4 hours away from the South Rim so it's really not a good day trip, especially with children. You could leave Scottsdale in the morning one day, drive to Sedona and spend a little time and then head on up to the canyon for sunset and then overnight there. Spend a few hours at the South Rim and then head back to Scottsdale. It would be a long couple of days but if the Grand Canyon is a priority it can be done.
I'd recommend either the Westin Kierland Resort or the JW Marriot for pools and spas. We really liked the Westin for the pool and location. The pool has a pretty good slide and one of those "lazy river rides". You can walk to an upscale shopping area with lots of restaurants. Haven't stayed at the JW Marriot but read a review that said the pools were great as well. Another option would be the Scottsdale Princess. All three resorts are near the 101 Freeway which would get you to I-17 to go north to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Expect to pay big bucks as well at any of the resorts.

Depending on your definition of upscale, these sister Hilton resorts in Phoenix might do:

Sedona's Enchantment did not impress me as a good value for the money spent, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

We stayed at the Phonecian hotel in Scottsdale on a business trip (and brought our kids). There was a pool with a slide and a wonderful spa. It is a very nice hotel/resort. We took the kids to a wild west town(sort of lame, but the kids enjoyed this). We also took them to the botanical gardens which to me was one big cactus! We drove all the way to Sedona to show them the red rock canyons and they kept asking if they could go back to the slide at the hotel pool. (They were around 6 and 7 years old at the time.)Anyway, it is a great resort for mom and dad and there is stuff for kids(Kids club too-We did not participate, but many of the children in our group did.)
