Definitely eat at McGuire's one night. It's at the foot of the Destin bridge. They are famous for their steaks. Be warned, you get a lot of food!
A local's opinion:
Absolutely agree with McGuires for a fun, casual dining experience. Also highly recommend Bonefish Grill across the street from Destin Commons and Captain Daves on the Gulf on old Hwy 98 (at the Okaloosa Walton county line)--excellent food and view of the gulf. For more upscale dining Beachwalk Cafe with Chef Tim Creehan (old Hwy 98), Ocean Club at Tops'l and Marina Cafe are favorites.
If you don't mind a little drive, Cafe' Thirty-A, and Criolla's both out on 30-A in Seagrove Beach, and Seagar's at Sandestin are incredible.
The beaches and weather are terrific right now. Enjoy your visit!

Also Piccolo's on 30-A and for good ole fried seafood on the beach Pompano Joe's. My parents always like to go to Buffalo Bob's or Bayeau Bill''s or something like that to get a steamed bucket. Also Key Lime Pie and/or breakfast at the Donut Hole.
The original Donut Hole in Destin proper is currently being rebuilt from the slab up--you would have to drive out toward 30-A to the newer one--depending on where you're staying, a long drive for breakfast. There's a little place just east of McGuire's on the south side of Hwy 98--Another Broken Egg--which is a hot spot for breakfast! Pompano Joe's is okay, especially the atmosphere, but I much prefer the food at Captain Dave's on the Gulf and they're very close to each other. Have not eaten at Bayou Bill's, but I know a lot of locals who do like it--definately a casual atmosphere when compared Seagar's and the 30-A spots.
An awsome lunch spot I didn't mention is a place called Callahan's Deli in Destin. It's just down on the left after you turn off Hwy 98 onto Gulf Shores Drive (on Holiday Isle).
Flyin'out tomorrow for the western shores, the mountains of Yosemite and wine country...enjoy Destin!

We especially liked Pompano Joes and The Back Porch for great seafood right on the ocean.
The Whales Tail, a funky oceanfront bar / grille for lunch, (not sure how they fared during the hurricane...)McGuires for amazing bread and butter pudding (not usually my favorite either) and Fudpuckers (NOT to be confused with Fuddruckers) for just plain fun food and atmosphere. Have a great time, destin rocks!
