Looking for restaurant recommendations on Martha's Vineyard

Heading to Martha's Vineyard in mid-September and would love to hear recommendations for restaurants--we're happy to go up-scale, but not too fussy. Have heard good things about Savoir Faire--anybody been there? Thanks in advance for all opinions.

We go to Savoire Faire at least once once every trip to the Vineyard (been 4 times!) and its my favorite restaurant there. If they have a dish made with cherrystones, pancetta, and artichokes over pasta its definitely worth trying. I like the Homeport in Menemsha for the lobster. Inexpensive and casual, but be sure to make a reservation because it can be very crowded. I always enjoy the Black Dog too. I know its a big tourist draw, and the wait is kind of a pain. But the food is very good. And we always take wine to drink as we siton the dock and wait for our table. Also, if you show up fairly early (like 5:30) or late (8:30) you may have a shorter wait. There was another restaurant in Vineyard Haven close to the Black Dog called Stripers that we pretty nice. We could sit outside on the deck by the water. Food was good, not memorable, and the atmosphere was nice. Oh yes, and for lunch in Edgartown check out "The Newes from America" pub/tavern. It tends to be crowded, but they make awesome clam chowder, and have a very nice beer selection.

Savoir Faire.....to die for. Fabulous.
This is definitely upscale. But absolutely delightful.
Homeport....great food. Could be in
your kitchen. Real casual atmosphere.
Check out Zagat.com for some very good suggestions.
MV is a great place to visit in Sept.
Have a wonderful trip. Be sure to go up Island. Gay Head is worth the ride out there. Go to Hillard's Candy Shop in Oak Bluffs. Get an ice cream at Mad Martha's. Shop the shops in Edgartown.

Have fun!!!!

While driving around MV, be sure to stop at The Scottish Bakehouse if you are a fan of shortbread, pork pies, or the like. The proprietor is a genuine, born-in-Scotland baker, and their shortbread is out of this world. Homemade preserves too.

Our family has a home there so we are up several times a season. Sept is a great time to go! A little less crowded.
The Newes in Edgartown for reasonably priced good food, great chowder, and and excellent beer selection.
Homeport is good, family oriented but pricey. We find it nice to just get lobsters by the water (Homeport has takeout) in Menemsha and watch the sunset.
Jimmy Seas (OB) has great pan pasta and David Ryans in Edgartown is pretty good too.
Absolutely do not forget Mad Martha's for ice cream, Old Stone Bakery (Edgartown and OB) for apple fritters and another really great bakery is Expresso Love (Edgartown). Have fun!

If it's a special occasion, L'Etoile at the Charlotte Inn in Edgartown is a can't miss. Depends on how one defines stuffy...some might consider a bit stuffy, I suppose. It was Jackie Onassis' favorite restaurant on the island. In a covered garden attached to the Inn. Lots of charm, ambience, intimacy.

Hi Mary,

Try Chesca's in Edgartown - consistently wonderful food and thoughtful service. Savoir Faire is definitely an winner as well as Alchemy, a new restaurant by the owners of Savoir Faire...try Alchemy for lunch. The Daggett House in Edgartown for breakfast or Dock Street Coffee Shop for a bit of local color. Go to the back door at the Homeport and take your chowder and/or lobster-to-go and enjoy sunset on Menemsha Harbor. Also try the Menemsha Deli for fantastic sandwiches to take to the beach. And for your sweet tooth, make every effort to visit Chilmark Chocolates. Enjoy your visit!
