Looking for activities/restaurants in the OBX...

My husband and I will be going to the OBX with our toddler and are looking for suggestions on what to do if we get bored playing on the beach. We are staying at a house in Kill Devil Hills from 6/1 - 6/6. Our daughter loves animals - is the Aquarium pretty decent? What about the Alligator River Wildlife Refuge - will we see many animals?

We're also looking for restaurant recommendations - places that are casual and fun.

Thank you!!

Go to Sam & Omie's on the beach road near Whalebone Junction. It's been our favorite restaurant there for over twenty years.

We went to the aquarium several years ago and it was small; however, I believe they have renovated it in recent years. I'm sure your little one will like it. We love Dirty Dick's Crab House Restaurant, on the main road a bit south of Kill Devil Hills. YOu can get on their web site for the mile marker #. Also, for a nice romantic meal, we love Penguin Isle in Nags Head. The sunsets over the sound are great. It's ok to take small children there. There are so many restaurants to choose from in the Kill Devil Hills/Nags area. When you arrive, your realtor should have restaurant guides available and most rental properties have them right in the homes. You will absolutely love the OBX - we've been going for 10 years now!

The Blabk Pellican has always been a favorite of ours. It has a real beach atmosphere. It's right on the beach road near or in Kill Devil Hills. Quagmires is another fun place right on the beach in the same area.

Be sure to go up Jockey Ridge to view the sunset. You can see both sound and ocean from the top.

Thanks for the advice... But, now we've had to cancel our trip - I broke my collarbone

I'm so sorry . . hope you recover soon!! Plan to go in Sept. (and hope there are no hurricanes) It's fabulous in Sept. when most of the tourists are gone - you can get into any restaurant without a reservation and there's much less traffic!! And the cost of rental homes goes down significantly.
