Long Island....YUCK!

OK, I want to start by stating that LI has a lot of beautiful beaches, parks, houses, etc...But come on people, the driving is the most hideous I've ever encountered, and I live in LA! so please don't tell me that you "need to be tough" to drive where you live. Where are all you people going? and why do you show absolutely no consideration to any other living being on the road. I found it rather comical and actually felt sorry for all of you Long Islanders. How awful, what should take ten minutes becomes a novel. I'll stick to Manhatten and not need to use a car.

Seiously when you take the population of New York and put it in an such a small area you have to expect to have major traffic problems. Then you have to add in the visitors and you can see why it will be come a nightmare.

wow, so much anger! why didn't you write more about your positive experiences on long island? someone might benefit from that. i live on long island, and i hardly ever sit in traffic. i know better than to drive to the hamptons every weekend, i go to a beautiful little north shore beach and NEVER, ever hit traffic. and i'm 5 minutes from parks, museums, theaters, great restaurants, etc. i'm pretty sure you did not see all of the island, so why assume it's all bumper-to-bumper traffic full of obnoxious drivers? there's so much more to it than that, too bad you didn't get to experience it. manhattan is awesome, glad you liked it. if you'd written something negative about that, i'd really be worried!

Last weekend two teenagers killed a couple who were going to be married in August.
One was driving his daddys Corvette the other was driving his own Mercedes 500sl.
They were drag racing along one of Long Islands highways, and hit the couple driving in their Jeep.
The kids lived.
Every summer, there are stories like this-the drivers are terrible out on LI and the kids are dangerous, too many big fast cars driven by simple minded spoiled brats.

Long Island is the pits until you get to the Hamptons which is tied with Carmel and Monterey for the prettiest place in the country. Try taking the train from 34th street, it is a bit slower but avoids the hideous drivers.

I grew up on the northshore of LI and loved it, but had to get out when I couldn't afford to live there and now I can't bring myself to go back.

The bad news for Florida is that all those people retire someday and move down here!
