I like the quirky Curtis Hotel...a doubletree hotel near the perf arts center and the pedestrian mall.

Well, I found out they have reserved us a block of rooms at the brand new Embassy Suites adjacent to the Convention Center! It will be very convenient and takes out the analysis issue. I'm very pleased and it should be a nice place to stay. H is happy because they have a free business center as well as free internet in the lobby. It also has free breakfast and free cocktails & snacks every evening. It will be convenient so I can go back & get things that I leave in my hotel room and is not all the much pricier than other options. It's also nice that the entire property is smoke-free and is NEW & LEED certified.

The hotel said that you need to find transportation from the airport as there is no quick & easy public transit from the airport to the downtown hotels. Any recommendations on the best way for us to get from the airport to our hotel?

We may have just two of us together or we may have 3 or 4 of us travelling together (plans are still being formed). Have heard Supershuttle being recommended--either as passengers individually or booking a car, depending on how many of us will be having identical itineraries. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I hate the Super Shuttle in Denver. Get another couple and take a cab.

Thanks for the tip. Will try to figure out these logistics and try to avoid Super Shuttle if possible.

You have a few option. It is my understanding that a taxi is in the range of $50 and about 30 minutes. There is public transportation. The Skyride bus to Market Street station is $11. Hourly service from the DIA to Market Street station and takes about an hour. From Market Street station walk up stairs to ground level and catch the southbound free Mall shuttle bus to the appropriate cross street for the hotel and walk a block or two at most. And finally, Super Shuttle. I don't what there is to hate about but we have only used it for suburban locations which often means a slow route with many stops. I would think that the shuttle to downtown Denver would be much quicker. We have used Super Shuttle in many other cities and it has been adequate. And, of course, you could always get a Limo and arrive in style.

I have just booked the hotel--it is significantly cheaper than the Embassy Suites, even though it is 3* instead of the 4*. It is only $159/night (& we hope to get a few nights at the federal government rate of $141/night). It has free internet & wireless as well as a free unstaffed business center. It's two blocks from the convention center, that should work out OK for me. It's $76/night cheaper than the other hotel, so I can handle that!

Anyway, just wanted to provide an update. We will wait & see how many are flying in together to decide what method of transportation to get to & from the airport. Sad that the skyride doesn't reach the airport so we could catch that to our hotel, but perhaps in the future?

The Skyride does go from the airport to the market street station hourly. I described it in my above posting. Or were you thinking of the Light Rail system?

Which hotel did you book if not Embassy Suites?

If you do take the SkyRide, be sure you get on the correct coach. You do not want Stapleton. They are clearly marked on the front of the bus.

I have used it several times, and they are nice and comfy coaches. The driver will store your luggage for you.

Sorry, I booked at the Crowne Plaza in Denver instead because it's so much cheaper and hubby is happy that there will be internet in our room.

I don't see how I can take SkyRide from Denver airport as they said it doesn't reach the airport yet. Am I missing something? The hotels didn't seem to think it would be operational by May either. They all suggested catching SuperShuttle or a cab or something. Thanks for any clarification on this.

Sorry, missed your helpful explanation about SkyRide. Because we will be lugging quite a bit of luggage, I think we'll probably take SuperShuttle or similar, but thanks for all the help!

A new rail line is just starting construction from downtown to the airport. It is years away.

I believe SkyRide is the correct name for Denver's RTD public coach system, providing service to and from the airport. We need to confirm that it goes downtown from the airport.

Are you people NOT reading the other postings. I think I have posted three times that the a SkyRide route goes from the airport to the Market Street station hourly. And there is no new rail line under construction to the airport. There is rail planned but construction has not started. And it will be while. It is towards the back end of the build out period.

Wow, fmpden. You seem to think you are the ONLY source of info about Denver. Get over yourself.

The OP was given incorrect info by her hotel, and some clarification was requested:"I don't see how I can take SkyRide from Denver airport as they said it doesn't reach the airport yet. Am I missing something? The hotels didn't seem to think it would be operational by May either."

Maybe you do not read any posts but your own.

And your response was helpful ------

I believe ...... Need to confirm that it goes downtown ???? Of course it does. And I covered that pretty well.

I thought it was more helpful to post the official link, since the OP is getting different information from the hotel. Why should the OP believe you over the hotel? Just sayin'

Lose the attitude, eh?

Thanks everyone! Have confirmed the new rate for our reservations @ $141 + taxes, which makes me VERY happy! It should meet our needs very well.

We'll wait & see how many people are arriving & departing together to decide what transportation we'll use. We're leaning toward either SuperShuttle or a taxi or hotel car, just because lugging supplemental O2 & luggage can get bulky & we're not used to cooler temps.
