Lodging near Brownsville, Tx

I know it’s a long shot but wondering if anyone has recommendations for lodging in or near Brownsville, Tx. Will only be for a couple of nights so VRBO or AirBNB will likely be too pricey with fees so looking for hotels. Thank you!

Only been there once -- a hundred years ago (only a slight exaggeration) for a family wedding -- as I remember every chain hotel know to man was positioned along the main highway / frontage road -- some like Holiday Inn there were two or three properties. I was surprised to see so many actually.

Does it have to be Brownsville or can you stay in Harlingen? Like everywhere else, there are issues in this part of Texas with hotel staffing so be sure to read recent reviews. Even normally good chains are not up to their usual standards. (For example don't expect daily housekeeping, breakfast as promised or 24 hour maintenance). My friend stayed at the Hampton Inn in Corpus Christi a few months ago and there were big issues there. I had cancelled and booked elsewhere and had trouble getting a refund although hotels.com went to bat for me and it did come through. I was happy with my La Quinta Inn & Suites room there.

All else being equal, I try to stay near a Whataburger.

Yes, the recent reviews of all hotels in the area are quite bad. I may need to venture further out for a better experience. Thank you

Not sure that will help much, everyone is short staffed. I'd try to pick something as new as possible to reduce the likelihood of maintenance issues.

The La Quinta @ Corpus Christi was the one called South or Southeast at 5921 South Padre Island Drive. It was okay but you have to make your own beds. For a few days it should be okay.
I have stayed at another one (North) that wasn't so great.

What do you expect of reviews of Holiday Inn Express, Homewood Suites, Staybridge Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, La Quinta etc etc etc . . . None are 4 star and none are flea bags --- There won't be something better anywhere else nearby.

A working air conditioner would be nice, though. There are just not enough employees at this time. So "the usual" standards "from a hundred years ago" are not being met. And don't forget the entire area is under stress from the Border issues.

We have a place in Alamo that we like but I have never stayed in the dog days of summer.
