Lodging in Santa Monica

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in the Santa Monica area for me and my husband? Many hotels I have contacted are already booked due to a convention. Two that have openings are the Viceroy and the Fairmont. Any feedback on those or any other recommendations. We are going for a long weekend without our children. A first in many years. Thanks.

Does it have to be Santa Monica?

What's your budget?

We've stayed at the Fairmont in SM several times, in the tower rooms. Great views of the ocean, but it's across the street from the beach. I think it would be very nice for a long weekend.

Viceroy is very nice but the rooms are very small for the price. Also it is not located on the beach, it is two or three blocks inland but definitely walking distance. I would recommend checking out the Huntley. Very nice, reasonable prices for the area and great views from almost every room. Just stay away from the restaurant upstairs as it is way overpriced for lousy food. View is amazing though, go for drinks only.
