lodging in Austin and Dallas

Any recommendations for lodging in both Dallas and Austin (downtown). I looked at the Driskill and the reviews were so so, some said it is a seedy area. Is there a better area to stay, what are some recommendations.
As for Dallas I have not even looked at any places yet. We plan to visit JFK sites so not sure where we should stay. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome, tidy. No help with Dallas but I stayed at the Driskill and had no problems:

Austin Getaway

Plus, it is a gorgeous place!

Are you flying into Texas or taking a train? What month? I did some research for a trip that I ended up not taking to Fort Worth. Fort Worth now has electric buses that run on 7th Av. onto Bowie.

What else will you be doing in Dallas besides the 6th Floor Museum? I assume you will have a car? How many days?

I recently stayed in downtown Dallas at an AC Hotel by Marriott. It was fine. If I was staying longer, I'd prefer to stay somewhere outside downtown either in the Park Cities/ around SMU or in Uptown. I would not stay near the Dallas Market Center on I-35. Not dangerous, just a bunch of hotels off the interstate.
