Lodging - Anna Maria Island

Can anyone recommend lodging options at Anna Maria Island? I'll be traveling w/ a 7 year old and looking for a family friendly environment on the beach/gulf - w/ a pool. Since we won't be there a week, most of the condo's aren't an option

Also interested in any places to avoid. Thanks!

I wouldn't count out staying in a condo. In August AMI will not be crowded and some folks may rather have their condo used for a couple of days rather than empty the whole week.

I've rented condos for less than a week (although not on AMI) using www.vrbo.com as a starting point- even when condos say they rent by the week. I simply looked at their rental calendar to see if they had availability then sent an email with my request for less than a week.

Mike Norman Realty is a rental agency for many very nice homes and condos on the island. You might give the agency a call to see if they rent anyplace less than a week. Google them to find their website with their home listings.

One option might be Blue Water Beach Club 941-778-6688. It's on the beach and has a pool. Friends of mine have stayed there and liked it.
If you divide the island into thirds, it's located in the northern third. Something more south, on the beach, would be Via Roma Beach Resort 941-778-6691. It's a time share, but less than a week's stay is possible if within 30 days. Across the street from the beach, farther south on the island, is Queen's Gate Resort 941-778-7153. This would be within walking distance of numerous restaurants and shops. Silver Surf Gulf Beach Resort is next door, I believe. 941-778-6626. You could Google them and map them. Have fun! Wish I were going sooner than October!

Just a little "watch out" on Mike Norman Realty....their cancellation policy is extremely strict. Some years back we paid a deposit on a condo unit for a week in late April; in December I was down there and looked at the place, found it to be dark and not clean (carpet and furniture stains, etc.); we cancelled more than 4 months ahead, and the deposit was not returned because the unit was not rerented during that week.
