Lexington, KY in 24 hours
My husband and I are traveling to the Lexington area for 3 nights for a wedding in Early June. The venue is in Frankfort (2 nights), but my friend suggested we stay in downtown Lexington for 1 night before we move on to Frankfort. She thinks we would enjoy walking around downtown, seeing a few sights and then having a nice dinner somewhere near our hotel. We will arrive in downtown around 1:00 PM and will have the afternoon and evening. I would like to plan the perfect itinerary to enjoy the limited time we will have. And, I want to pick a place to stay that will be close enough to walk to sights and dinner. We do not mind getting the exercise. It means we can eat and drink guilt free! We don't want to pay more than $150 for hotel, and do not care what dinner will cost. We prefer to spend our money on dining and entertainment rather than an expensive hotel.
We plan on leaving the hotel by 8:00 AM the next morning to go to Keeneland Park to see the horses and then make our way to Frankfort via a few bourbon distilleries.
Any suggestions on a great afternoon and evening in Lexington? We even thought about renting a bike. I heard there was a good trail. Also, since we will be there on a Thursday, we thought about going to the "Thursday night Live" music in the park for a little while. Is this fun?
As always, I appreciate any advice from the experts. Thanks!

Have been to Frankfort, and there’s about a day’s worth of things to see. The capitol building is well worth seeing. The Governor’s Mansion is good, as is the Kentucky History Museum and the old capitol building. There are a few historic houses you can tour. And there’s Rebecca Ruth Candies, which makes yummy candies (bourbon balls are a specialty) and offers a short tour of their facility which among other things has a conveyer belt that’s reminiscent of the one in the famous “I Love Lucy” episode.
A great food choice is Rick’s White Light Diner.
Haven’t been to Lexington, but there are several historic homes there, most notably the Mary Todd Lincoln House. Check hours though, as these are seasonal.
