I have been reading this thread for a couple of days and all I can say is how lucky you NY'rs are to have such a wide choice of places to debate over. Where I live Pizza Hut, Dominos and Papa John's dominate along with a decent family place or two.

My favorite NY pizza is John's on Bleecker Street, great pies and ambience although I have yet to try Grimaldi's.

I eat at Grimaldi's, Patsy's, John's, Totono's (out in Coney Island), Joe's on Bleecker and Carmine they're all mighty good pizzas. You won't go wrong with any of these.

One of my favorite places for a slice is Maffei on 22nd St. and 6th Ave. in Manhattan. They have something called a Grandma slice - not traditional NY thin slice, it's closer to Sicilian, but a mighty tasty slice. $5.25 for 2 slices and a small soda - can't beat that deal.

Two good neighborhood places I frequent are Chelsea Pizza on 14th St, btw 7th & 8th and Due Amici on 14th, just west of 8th. Due Amici has two other stores, on 14th near 5th Ave and 3rd Ave and 12th St. Due Amici is also good for salads, sandwiches and an espresso.

BTW, Domino's, Pizza Hut, etc. is not pizza ;-).

Joe - you must be a neighbor - I like Chelsea Pizza too (a block from me) - nice variety, terrific counter guys, too. And Due Amici is tasty - there's another branch at 14th St and 5th Avenue.

Lombardi's is great! Don't worry about having to buy a whole pie. The crust is thin & crisp and it all goes down very easily? (Besides, you've heard of doggie bags havn't you?)

Top 5

Grimaldi's (Old Fulton street - Bklyn)

DiFara's (Ave J - Bklyn)

Lombardi's (Spring Street - Manhattan)

Cafe Leonardi (Court Street - Bklyn)

Totonnos (Coney Island or, in a pinch, their branch on the Upper East Side).
