LET'S GET THE OLD FORMAT BACK!!!

I do not like this new Format at all! It is very busy and I wish that it would return to the old format! What do you say Fodorites? Let's let the managers know that we would like to return to the old Format. Thanks.

Have you read the notices from Fodor's?

http://www.fodors.com/community/

Fodor's is NOT going to return to the old format.

Princess: It just ain't going to happen. Honest. So you need to relax and quit getting so agitated about the changes.

As I suggested on the other thread - why not go over to Forums Help and read over some of the discussions there. You probably will like the new format (or at least not hate it so much) once you get used to it - but not if you keep fixating on getting the old boards back . . . . . .

Actually I liked it better when I could choose an actual city as well as the country. It narrows down my search to the area that I'm interesting in researching. The reason that I always went to Fodors first is because I had that option. I don't care for the "advanced search" option because it gives me a bunch of junk.

I hope they at least give us the option of narrowing are search to a city. I don't want to wade thru all of western Europe or all of the United Kingdom if I only want to research London.

bluzmama: have you actually tried the new search function? It works 100% better than the old version -- well, since the old search didn't work at all, it is more like 100000% better.

Maybe you could look over in Forums Help too. There has been a lot of discussion about the enhanced search and how it works.

I don't like the new format either - there are some improvements but overall I still like the original frames format. But I don't care - it's just a web forum. I'll get used to it even if I don't have to like it.

Why are you even suggesting this, it is obvious they are not going to go back to the old forum. Katy has explained many times why the update was done, it's time to get over it and move on.

For once I kept my mouth (or keyboard) shut for a while and tried it out for longer than usual before whining. I surprised even myself that I actually like this one better as a whole. And since I am not a directions reader, I keep finding new things it can do - probably all explained in the FAQs or Help sections that I did not read.

I don't like it when they mess with my stuff either, but this is not a battle you are going to win - so just give it a little more time and it may grow on you.

Princess, your plea would have a lot more weight if you even indicated you had read a few of the hundreds and hundreds of posts and explanations already posted on this very topic. One can only assume you haven't even read any other posts here, and most certainly have not attempted to find out WHY and HOW the new system works.

The new format is too busy and not user friendly. The old one was clear and concise. Please clean this new one or return to the old one.

I just dont like that the responce and thread title column are not separated - it drives me nuts!

I like them independant of one another - instead of the whole thing scrolling.............. Huge pet peeve!

As I understand the Fodors explanations, the technology that allowed the old board to have independent columns is apparently now obsolete. The new design is an attempt to keep as much as possible of that old format but without using frames. They won't be bringing that back.

I don't know, but posts like princess' "<blue>What do you say Fodorites? Let's let the managers know that we would like to return to the old Format.</blue>" and june515's "<blue>Please clean this new one or return to the old one</blue>" sound like folks who didn't read ANY of the months and months of updates katie posted prior to the conversion, and none of the discussions since.

Sort of like arriving back in one's hometown to find their old elementary school was torn down to make way for a freeway and shopping mall, and saying "Where is the old school - I miss it. I don't like the new school because it is ugly and too big. Lets start a petition to tear down the freeway and bring back the old school".

That horse left the barn months ago -

I think you're just going to have to adapt. There were a few things I didn't like, and I gave them feedback, and they changed them. They've been incredibly responsive. The old frames format of the two sides scrolling independently is outdated and not coming back - I asked! It used to make me nuts too, but I'm adjusting to it.

I hated the new forum for the first week or two. I have to admit that I'm getting used to the new forum. While I still prefer the old one much better, I think I'm adapting.

Does anyone else remember the last time Fodors changed the colors of the website? There was almost as much complaining about that. People screamed that the new colors gave them headaches, they were too hard to read, they were ugly and garish -- and many proclaimed they'd never come here again. Now how many can even remember what the colors were before that change? How quickly we can adapt and forget -- if we actually try.

OK, my fellow Fodorites, I'm not that upset about it. I'll give it a chance and know I'll end up getting used to it and continue getting and giving travel advice.

I'll do just fine. Thanks, and sorry for getting anyone upset and angry that yet one more person had to say something negative. Please, again, accept my apology!
