Lenox Mass
My husband and I are going on a long weekend, and I thought Lenox Mass was a good place, since it is not too far from Manhattan. Any suggestions on where to stay that is within walking distance, or in the town?
Thanks

Lenox is chock full of beautiful country inns and bed & breakfasts, along with some outstanding restaurants, many right in town or just a block or two away, with even more within a short drive. It's a gorgeous quintessential New England Village, perfect for strolling. We've enjoyed the Village Inn, Candlelight Inn (for lodging and dining) and the Rookwood Inn (for the in-room working fireplaces). If open during your visit, highly recommend a visit to Edith Wharton's estate.
On the way is Stockbridge, home of the terrific Norman Rockwell Museum, with Chesterwood (summer studio of Daniel Chester French) in West Stockbridge.
Excellent resources include www.berkshires.org and the printed "Massachusetts, An Explorer's Guide".

We have stayed a the Birchwood Inn for 3 summers in a row now. Ellen is a lovely hostess. We like the small room on the top floor, which is good because it is the cheapest! It is a 5 minute walk to the town.
For a splurge dinner, try the Wheatleigh! Go early for a drink, too.

The good news is the Mount is still open, unless I missed the latest news.(I believe until December 21st) The bad news is that it is in dire finanacial condition.
The following is from the website.
Our October deadline has come and gone, and, thanks to the enthusiastic support of our many donors and visitors this season, we have been given a month-by-month extension to the Save The Mount campaign. We are now negotiating with our creditors to restructure the debt, and hope to come to an agreement soon.
However, The Mount continues to face the threat of foreclosure, which could still result in this National Historic Landmark being closed to the public forever. Please make a contribution now!
