leaving Sat. last min. questions :-)
Hi everyone
I have been planning this trip to celebrate my 50th birthday for two years and we finally leave Sat.
I have a last minute question. We are currently planning to do the road to Hana on Wed. of next week. I looked at the Maui weather for next week and there is a forecast for 40% chance of showers for Wed. The forcast for the day before Tues. is 0% chance of rain. Do you all who have done the road to Hana trip think a40% is too much a chance of rain, do cloud condidtions and showers make a real difference in the trip?
Are there any advice or commments you can give me on our current itinerary which is as follows:
Day 1 Sat. arrive check into Napili Kai and have dinner there
Day 2 Sun. open
Day 3 Mon. open dinner at Nick's
Day 4 Tues. open
Day 5 Wed road to Hana???
Day 6 Thurs. Old Lahina Luau
We would like to do sometime in the week shopping and trip to winery and maybe sunset at Haliakala (not sunrise) or sunset cruise??
Day 7 Fri fly to Kauai, store luggage at Hyatt and drive the Wiamai canyon road to the end and have lunch at the lodge and then drive back to Hyatt check in and spend the afternoon at the Hyatt. Dinner at Tidepools
Day 8 Sat. spend the day enjoying the Hyatt or morning drive to the canyon if the weather was not good the day before. Dinner at the Beach House
Day 9 Sun. check out of Hyatt store luggage and do the helicopter ride. Go back to get luggage and drive to horth part of the island and check into the Hanalie Colony. Spend the afternoon at the beach. Not sure about where to have dinner yetthat is not expensive?
Day 10 Mon.do the zipline, kayak, hike, swim with Outfitter Kauai. Afternoon open.
Day 11 Tue. open maybe go to Kee and Tunnels beach and drinks at Bali Hi or The Living Room. Again not sure where to eat that is not expensive
Day 12 Wed. fly to Honalulu and check into Raddison Kunio. Afternoon free.
Day 13 Thur. up early for the Home of the Brave military base and Pearl Harbor tour. Afternoon free.
Day 14 Fri. Afteroon tea at the Moana Surfrider at 1 pm with late check out and go to the airprot to fly home.
With free time in Honalulu I am wanting to shop, do Diamond Head climb or maybe drive out of town up to Lanaki beach etc.??
So what do you all think?

I agree with jewelhawg, check the weather when you get there for the road to Hana. You could head to Lahaina early on the same day as your luau and do some shopping. We enjoyed shopping there and wished we would have went even earlier so we could have spent more time there. We did the sunrise at Haleakala and we were so glad we did, it was so beautiful,we got some amazing pictures. I'm sure the sunset is just as beautiful, I wouldn't miss it. I am disappointed we couldn't do a sunset cruise, our days and nights were just too busy. Hopefully we'll get there again. Have a great 50th! What a way to celebrate.

According to Glenn James, local cable-access meteorologoist and MCC instructor, we have a 20 - 30% of rain forecast for each of the next 7 days, as of this morning. 20% - 30% chance of rain is the same as scattered and/or isolated showers, which is par for the course on the north shore. Since the forecats only goes 7 days out, I'd check in a few days to update.

There are no storm systems out there, Isis is dispersing. I have not heard of any Kona storms in the immediate forecast.
Remember--No rain, no rainbows.
