Leaving for N.O. soon.
Ok - here we go - my last questions...
We will be in N.O. in a few days - have thoughts of doing a couple plantations, the Garden Dist. and cemetery, maybe a swamp tour, Bourbon St., Jackson Sq, flea market,
and lots of good food and drink...are there any other must do things to see and do there that I can fit into 4 days? Also, looked up the weather and noticed 90's and very high humidity next week. Are there loads of mosquitos? That was prob. a pretty dumb question considering the swamps but thought I would ask.
Thanks again so much to all of you!!!

You can combine two-for-one by taking a city tour that includes a cemetery stop in with it. (The buses are air conditioned, too!) Also, take a half-day swamp tour instead of a full day, that's really plenty! You might want to take a ride on a riverboat for some cool breeze and neat sights.

if you have the time and a car, think about taking a drive to some of the plantations along River Road (Hwy 18). you can stop for lunch at one of the many seafood restaurants along the way and get a mint julep at oak alley plantation. really beautiful place. check out:

for more info. it takes a little over an hour to get there from N.O. but it's well worth it if you have never seen a plantation before.
oh, and the restaurants may look like dumps, but don't let that fool you. the food is excellent.

As John said, not many mosquitos yet. But the news this morning said that we should expect rain from now til Thursday. That will probably change the mosquito situation.
Just in case things are different here, mosquitos are much worse at night, and not much of a problem during the day.
Our solution is just to go indoors once the mosquitos come out. I hate wearing bug spray!

Terri-Ann, the Natchez does not go to
Oak Alley! It goes down-river to the
Chalmette battlefield and back, all in
2 hours. The larger Mississippi Queen
and her sisters stop at Oak Alley on
river cruises (7-day), maybe that's
what you saw when you were there.
In any case, again I recommend the
smaller tour companies to go to Oak
Alley . . . Isabelle, Tour With Chris,
Steppin Out are all customized tours
that are infinately better than the
Greyline bus ride out there.
