Leaf color still glorious within 45 miles of Boston!

We drove out to our favorite apple orchard/country store in Sterling, MA yesterday and the color out there is still breathtaking. Not to say it may not be just as lovely farther out, but this is as far as we went.

The towns on the way, Lincoln, Weston, Sudbury, Stow, Hudson and Clinton all had some of the most vibrant color I have seen in >35 years of living in MA.

So for anyone who might want to still get out to see leaves, I thought I would let you know. We had very heavy rain on Saturday night and i feared that our Sunday drive would feature a lot of stripped trees, but that was not the case! Not only was the color vibrant, but many trees seemed to have lost nary a leaf!

I was walking in Newton this morning and it was just incredible. But seems like this year it's more golden orange and golden yellow there instead of the brillant red we had last year.

Unfortunately I was out in Concord on Saturday - when it was foggy cloudy and raining. The foliage was beautiful but the weather wasn't. I'm hoping we get some nice weather this weekend and we can head back out to Concord again.

Yikes! It's so windy today (gusts up to 45 mph) that whatever remaining leaves will be gone by end of the day. It's raining leaves when I look out of my window!

Trees are mostly bare in our yard but there's a new variety of maple with beautiful scarlet fall foliage planted in an industrial park just north of ext 15 in Concord NH. The leaves were still perfect when I saw them on Friday. Pretty much everything else was brownish gold.

Jack-o-lanterns ought to look pretty spooky tonight. A local farm held a pumpkin carving party last Sunday and have 1300 jack-o-lanterns on display.

Yeah, no sooner had I posted this on Monday and then wham! There are still lots of leaves in many parts here in the western suburbs---altho many fewer trees that are full--and they are dropping with a vengeance and will soon be only a pretty memory.
