Le Pavillon Hotel - New Orleans
We are planning a 3 night visit to New Orleans during early November and have made a reservation at Le Pavillon hotel in Poydras Street.
We know the hotel has just undergone a major refit but would like to hear from anyone who has actually stayed there !?
Best wishes from Scotland !

You are really off the beaten track at that place. You will definatley need to cab it at night.
I just had a magical experience at a B&B
in Algiers Point located right across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. It is walking distance to all major attractions via free ferry and this neighborhood is historic and lovely.

We stayed at Le Pavillon two years ago - it is 3 blocks away from Canal St which is the border of the French Qtr. We are in our 40's and walked everywhere - never had to use a cab! This area of the city is very safe and most people prefer to stay a couple of blocks away from the Qtr to leave the noise behind while they sleep.
The lobby at Le Pavillon is fantastic and the rooms are beautiful - ours had a King bed, a sofa, coffee table, and an armoire with the TV in it - very spacious! Unfortunately, with all of the terrific restaurants in N.O., we didn't get a chance to sample the hotel restaurant so can't help you out there.
Enjoy strolling around the Qtr - try to avoid Decatur St(except to go to Cafe DuMond to get beignettes) because it is just too touristy. Dauphine St. is very nice. Do walk a couple of blocks over to St. Charles St from your hotel and catch the streetcar up through the Garden District. Julia St has all the art galleries if you're interested in that. Be sure to visit the Cemetery - We took a cemetery tour just to have a guide to explain the various tombs and why the people of N.O. bury people that way, but the cemetery admittance is free. Take a swamp tour & feed the alligators marshmallows - don't get too close, they ARE wild! Go to Harrah's casino even if you don't gamble just to view the interior - it's very grand! There is a train that runs along the river the entire length of the Qtr that has 5 or 6 stops within the Qtr - great when you get tired from walking - only $1.50 USD each way!

Stayed at the Le Pavillon in the fall.
Loved it (and I am a hotel snob).
Peanut butter sandwiches on homemade
bread free at night. Very short walk to
the French Quarter. for the experience
I decided to stay one night in the
French Quarter (I was on a business trip). Got very little sleep because of the noise. Regretted not having the Pavillon to go back to.
Be sure and eat at Mothers for lunch.
Short walk from the Pavillon. Very
crowded, stand in line to order but
very authentic food.

Anne and Helen both offer good advice. Le Pavillon is not very far from the Quarter. There is a French Quarter shuttle bus that you can catch near your hotel that will loop you around into the Quarter passing by the Riverwalk, the Aquarium of the Americas on the way to Jackson Square. The shuttle only runs during the day. If you opt for a cab to or from the Quarter, it will run you $5 - $7. If you decide to walk, you're ten mintues from the Quarter. I live in the French Quarter so I've never stayed at your hotel, but it is one of the old grand dame type places in the city. Hope you have a great trip.
