We're planning a trip to St.Pete Beach with 3 other 30-something couples (not bringing our kids) and are looking for a very nice resort. Recommendations for Tradewinds, Don Cesar or other resorts in the area and on the beach?

I have never been to tradewinds, but Don Cesar is beautiful and very romantic. It is very classy, beautiful water, great pool and white beaches.

Don Cesar is a spectacular hotel. It is on the beach and very formal. Tradewinds is also wonderful with gondolas and spectacular grounds.

Personally, my wife and I prefer the Alden which is about a block from the Tradewinds. It is right on the beach and the rooms are very nice and extremely reasonable. Most rooms at the Alden are suites with kitchens.

You can't go wrong with either Don Cesar or the Tradewinds, but you can spend a lot less and have just as nice a place at the Alden.

The Don Cesar is a classic hotel with many amenities. The staff is attentive, food and services first class. Be sure and ask for a gulf view room.

Been to the DON...AWESOME...pool,drinks,scenery..very memorable! Have a great time and bring the kids a t-shirt!

Does any one has any information on Sandpiper? Is $129.50 per night reasonable for June 23? Thanks!

The Don Cesar has an "old world" charm plus nice pools and beach. The Tradewinds is more spread out with a more typical resort feel. If I remember correctly the Sandpiper is a fairly nice "beachy" type property. I'll be in St Pete next week and will try to take a look at it and report back.

The "Don" has a long stretch of beach to the south of it with just homes on it that is not crowded and lovely for walking. Whereas the Tradewinds is in the middle of the hotel strip. I prefer the Don. The Sirata has expanded and is a nice hotel for the money. They have a beach bar called "Harry's" where locals go. At the Don you can walk down to Pass a Grill beach and have a grouper sandwich at the Hurricane. A standard thing to do in St. Pete. Take a drive out to Fort Desoto (less than 10 minutes) Park and bring skates or bikes or just walk. Uncrowded and lots of undeveloped land. Little shops at John's Pass in Madeira beach are fun to do.
