I just love this show! I also couldn't believe that baggage lady--if I would have done that I would have been falling over myself apologizing! I was really nervous for the guy pushing the plane out of "3A"--thank goodness he did it!

This is a GREAT show. After watching last night's episode, I will be very interested to fly out of Gate 3A at LAX again. The pushback was soooooo dramatic!

I felt so bad for the older fellow who didn't get to go on his dream vacation to Yellowstone (?) because he couldn't travel with oxygen, tried to make the trip without it, and had breathing problems before the plane even took off. His wife went anyway!

Back to last week and the drunk guy they sent home (that was hanging out with the Vegas Bachelorettes) - They kicked him off for being drunk BUT he never got mean, then they filmed hiim leaving the airport driving his Car - Hello!! He was driving drunk on the streets of L.A. - I know a drunk passenger is bad but come on and least he is not going to possibly kill some inoccent person with his car - that was really bad to show and made me upset with Southwest.

Yeah, well we don't know what happened off camera...i'm pretty sure that they didn't REALLY let him drive off drunk.

I mean, too drunk to fly definately implies too drunk to drive.

travelingirl, Southwest had nothing to do with the so called drunk guy getting into his car. The film crew and producers are totally independent of Southwest, and Southwest can not police the thousands of customers when they leave the terminal.

Anyway, I thought he got a bad deal getting kicked of the plan when the bachelorettes where doing just as much drinking and flawnting the drinks in the gate area, and they all got to fly. Sexist.

As for the man with the oxygen tanks. Thank you Southwest. If I were on that flight and saw tanks of oxygen being brought on board I would have got the hell off the plane in a heart beat. If I am not mistaken (and please correct me if I am wrong) the Jet Blue airliner that crashed in the mid 90's in the Everglads (sp) blew up because of oxygen tanks brought on board.

All in all I think airline empolyees take a lot of crap from rude customers. And the rude customers never appologize when the are in the wrong. \/

jor, a couple of clarifications. It was a ValuJet airliner (JetBlue wasn't even a gleam in its CEO's eye at that point), and it was a fire in a cargo hold. The undischarged oxygen canisters were being transported improperly and turned some kind of spark into a raging fire.

Airlines do require notification of passengers who require oxygen-- they supply special equipment, I believe. But you have to arrange it in advance. Anyone with experience in this matter...?

rjw_lgb_ca, thanks for clarification. Then it seems to be in so many problems that passengers have with the airlines that passengers don't plan ahead, ask questions, and make arrangements. I would never arrive at the airport needing an oxygen tank or equivelant without getting it cleared at the onset of my travel planning. Same with the couples who bring children for free flights who have no proof of their age.

RE: 2/16/04 episode

I have finally come to the conclusion that having a drink at an airport bar is an unwise decision. What's with these people?

Could you believe SWA overbooked more than 50 passengers on that flight to Ft. Lauderdale. I would be fuming, too, if I was flying to meet a cruise. I guess you need to fly a day ahead.

As far as the oxegyn thing goes, keep this in mind.

When you purchase an airline seat, you are not guarenteed that seat. The airline can refuse boarding to you for just about anything.

If the captain thinks that your oxegyn use on the plane would put the crew and passengers in danger, he can refuse boarding and all the airline has to do is refund your money. You have zero recourse.

Warning to anybody taking a cruise: Always leave the day before! You have thousands of dollars invested in your cruise -- don't jeopardize it by taking the chance that your flight won't arrive on time! Too many things can go wrong and if they don't, then you can start your vacation a day early!

Of course people were taking a risk by booking a flight for same day as cruise departure, but I think SW verged on breach of contract by overbooking by 50 people, esp. to cruise departure cities, etc. I know crystal-balling the number of no-shows is very tricky, but that was outrageous. I wondered what those two lawyers who were on an earlier show would have done with that situation.

I missed the first episode last night. Was there an explanation given as to how they could have possibly overbooked by 50? What happened to the cruise passengers?

I haven't watched "Airline" in two weeks. I kind of got sick of the show being about a bunch of drunks being turned away. Wished I would have watched this episode, though...what DID happen to the 53 stranded passengers? I thought airlines oversold by 20 percent of the flight--not 50 percent!!!

I missed the overbooked 50 passengers - what a nightmare!

As for the oxygen - when my mom flew and needed oxygen it went like this. She entered the airport on her own oxygen. Once she was ready to board the flight she had to rent the tanks (if I remember correctly it was $175) from the airline. She also had to have someone there to take her tanks back out of the airport because they could not fly with her. Then when she landed at her destination someone had to be there with more oxygen tanks for her to be able to leave. There was absolutely no way they would allow her oxygen tanks to be on the flight. Quite an ordeal. We were renting oxygen tanks all over the place! But I can't imagine not checking this out before going to the airport to board a flight.

The 50+ overbooked passengers were put on a flight to Indianapolis (the ruckus started in Chicago) then a connection to Orlando, then to Ft. Lauderdale.

However, the action takes place with the 10 who were ORDERED OFF the plane in Indianapolis and sent back to Chicago. There just wasn't room for all of them on the flight to Orlando so they brought them BACK to Chicago and rearranged for them to fly to Tampa and then to Ft. Lauderdale. Don't you think they were a little irate? One women said her son was allowed to stay on the plane in Indy but she was ordered off.

What a mess. I sure wouldn't have wanted to work for Southwest in Chicago that day.
