lanai - likely to see dolphins too
check the surf report, or you will be feeding the fishies. and check cancellation policy due to high seas
molokini has been over touristed which is why it is often called a pee pot
lots of good off shore snorkling as an option
imho

Hi,
We did the Trilogy trip to Lanai in Februrary '07 and had a great time! Once you're on the island, you can either take a land tour or do a little catamaran trip. We opted for the land tour which was interesting but I was a little regretful when everyone arrived back from the catamaran trip, grinning ear to ear. Apparently, it was a blast and they saw lots of spinner dolphins. We didn't do the Molokini trip but definitely want to try that next time we visit. I hope this was sort of helpful! Have fun! I hope you see some whales!!

In our experience the water is clearer along the lava Kona coast of the Big Island, whereas the more sandy Maui coast is best in the morning before :-"winds increase in the afternoon and underwater visibility decreases.
We have seen more variety of coral and sea life from boat based snorkeling on the Big Island than from snorkel boat trips to Molokini.

Hi,
The snorkeling in Lanai was good. The water was clear and we saw a variety of fish. And it felt safe where we were. We didn't see any turtles. However, I'm not much of an expert, that was one of the only times I'd been snorkeling. We did a sea kayak trip off a southern Maui beach and snorkeled. But I hope to put that experience behind me. Not fun
