Last minute post-Mardi Gras trip

My husband and I are thinking about a last minute trip to New Orleans four days after Mardi Gras. We'll be traveling with our three kids (6, 4 and 5 months). I'm wondering whether we'll be able to get a reservation on such short notice. Does the city clear out pretty fast after Mardi Gras? Also, what hotels are suited to families? I'm looking for something in the $150-$250 a night range. Thanks in advance!

You might want to give people a little time to see your post and respond. There was only an hour and a half between your posts. If you wait a day or two, I'm sure people who have some advice for you will see your post and respond.

We went just after Mardi Gras in Feb 2002. We still found the city to be very lively - though no where near what it would be like during Mardi Gras. We were looking for night life and had a great time. As you are traveling with a family you won't care about nightlife and the activities that you'll be interested in like the aquarium and zoo should be nicely uncrowded. We still saw street musicians and a few performers in the Jackson Square area. Don't worry you'll have a great time.

We stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans on Royal St. Great location one block from Bourbon. Surprisingly quiet. There is a world of difference between Bourbon and Royal Sts. It has a roof top pool though you may not get the right weather for that.

bennie-

Thank you for the suggestions. We were actually considering the Omni Royal Orleans? it looks beautiful. But it looks like we're going to Atlanta instead. We're supposed to meet family driving across country, and they changed their route, so Atlanta it is. Thanks again for the advice.

J_Correa-

Thanks for your input. I was actually aware of the time between my posts; I topped my message to keep it on the first page.

Yes, New Orleans does empty out big time after Mardi Gras. One year we stayed around until Thursday after Mardi Gras and it was amazing to see the transformation as the city returns to normal.

Phoebe - I posted the comment because there are always people who come over from chat rooms expecting immediate answers and are disappointed because it takes awhile for people to respond on message boards.

For topping a post you can always just type "ttt". Then people will know you aren't just impatient.
