Las Vegas Trip Report: 4/5-4/8
I returned late last night from a fun ladies weekend in Vegas. We are a group of college friends in our mid-20s. I had posted on this board seeking recommendations for fun and trendy restaurants. Thanks for all the great recommendations!
Thursday (4/5) - took an early morning JetBlue flight out of JFK, arrived in Vegas at noon. Jumped on the shuttle van which dropped us off at Mandalay Bay.
Through my suitcase into the corner of my room and headed down to the pool. 4 margaritas and 1 slight sunburn later, came back to the room
Dinner reservations were at Tao that evening. The food was very good...typical Asian fusion. We endured the attention of a group of drunken old men at the table next to us in exchanged for a fully comped liquor bill. I'm shameless;-) After dinner, we headed up to the club where we stayed until 3:30. At this point, most rational people would have gone to bed, but two of my friends and I found a fun craps table and had to play for another 1 1/2. Went to bed around 5:30.
Friday (4/6)
Jumped out of bed, threw on my bathing suit, and ran down to the pool with another friend to reserve 6 lounge chairs together. Decided to make a breakfast out of the green olives in my bloody mary. We stayed down at the pool until late afternoon. The beach was PACKED with about 5M kiddies. Lots of families came out for the Easter holiday, I suspect.
Dinner reservations at Fix at the Bellagio that evening. This was my least favorite meal of the vacation. The service wasn't very good, and the food was a bit heavy for we wanted.
We headed over to the Hard Rock afterwards to go to Body English. I LOVED this club. really great music and a fun crowd. There was also a Frankie B. fashion show going on in the middle of the dance floor, so that was a nice surprise. We stayed at Hard Rock until around 4:30 and gambled a bit as well.
Saturday (4/7): Back to the pool for the day. The big highlight of the day was the appearance of Zach Braff and Donal Faison at the pool. They were in a cabana right near our chairs. I think we were the only people that recognized them, but I was happy that the other hotel guests seemed ot be leaving them alone.
Dinner plans that night at Social House at Treasure Island. The food was very good, but the portions were comically small. They sat us in a great table outside overlooking the pirate ship. It was kind of hilarious that htis trendy restaurant was in the middle of a really cheesy hotel.
After dinner, we headed over to Moon at the Palms. This was SO much fun. It's a really great club, and it's up top of the Palms with great views of the skyline. We partied there for a while, and then headed to the play boy part of the club. We had a blast taking pictures with the "bunnies" on easter weekend. My parents would be so proud
. Stayed there until around 5:00 and headed back to the hotel.
Thanks again to everyone who provided me with recommendations! Back to trying to survive the work day.

lizzie, that was absolutely fabulous. Even in my 20s, I didn't party like that in Vegas....but if I had to live my life over, I definitely would have done it your way. (I'm still shameless with the drunken old men, though.)

I had to read your report twice just so I could re-live my youth. I have more praises to lavish on you for your fantastic time in Vegas, but there's just not enough room!

Lizzie - did you have to wait to get in to any of the clubs? Did you need to get passes or get on any lists? My husband and I are going out in 2 weeks and want to hit some clubs but we're in our late 30's and I can't flirt with the doorman with my husband next to me!

The only place that had a seriously bad line was Tao. If you eat dinner there beforehand, you can probably ask the waiter/tress for passes to the club afterwards. I would definitely recommend Tao as a restaurant on its own.

I just chuckled with envy when I read your trip report. Five college buddies and I just spent a few days on the beach in northwest Florida. We are now ages 48-50, and were all in bed before midnight. But, in our college days, we partied like you. I also thought of my trip with DH to Vegas in December. We had a blast but again, we were in bed by 1:00 am. The only part of Tao we saw was the view from the lobby of the Wynn around 3:00 in the afternoon. Our daughter (age 23) had partied there on a previous trip.

We have reservations for Tao on Monday night but the club is dark. We might go there on Tuesday night after Spamalot. If our waitress can't help us out, I'm guessing the concierge can b/c we are staying at the Venetian. Pure seems to be hot on Tuesdays. Not sure if we could get in, though. I'm making up for being married at 21 and a mom at 23!!

Hi Lizzie. I was browsing through posts realized that I was also in Vegas from 4/4-4/8, staying at the Hotel at Mandalay with few of my girlfriends. We also hit up Tao on Thursday and Body English on Friday. I had so much fun in Vegas I can't wait to go back! My friend also saw Zach Braff in the lobby. Too bad I missed out on that one. Next time, check out Tryst - probably my favorite one out of 7 clubs I checked out.
I also agree there were way too many kids at the hotel. I will probably check out Venetian next time.
