Las Vegas, thanksgiving weekend

We have booked the LV Hilton Grand Vacations for 4 nights 21-25th, Coming from the UK not a great deal is known about thanksgiving and the things that go on across the pond!

I will be celebrating my 30th birthday on the 22nd, can anyone give us some ideas as to what we should see and do? where to eat, to drink and party! Not gamblers so more interested in letting our hair down before I really am too old!!!

All suggestions appreciated.

Hello fellow Sagittarius from across the pond What price range are you looking at, are you male or female? Getting into the top nightclubs are much easier for girls than it is for men. Women are often given complimentary access to the nightclubs if they look sharp outside of the casinos on the strip. If you dine at Tao you can ask the Maitre'd for a stamp that will cut down wait line to the VIP line.

Best nightclubs:
Tao @ the Venetian
Jet @ the Mirage
Pure @ Caesar's Palace (though it gets a younger crowd)
Nightclubs at the Palms & Hard Rock

Best restaurants for travelers in your age group:
Tao
Red Square @ Mandalay Bay, also has an excellent bar
Restaurants at the Hard Rock in general
N9ne @ the Palms
Stack at the Mirage

For Thanksgiving dinner: restaurant dining is expensive on the strip for Turkey Day, last year my family and I had a traditional trukey/stuffing/pumpkin pie dinner inside Joe's Stone Crab at Caesar's Palace Forum for about $27 per person, it was excellent, the best pumpkin pie I've ever tasted. There is also an optional seafood item instead of the Turkey as well as the regular dining menu.

When the time draws near type in a google search for "Las Vegas Thanksgiving dinner 2007". Usually every year the local newspaper (Las Vegas Review Journal) puts together the best dining options with menus and price ranges.

LV is really busy over the Holidays though you'd think it would be slow, we are continually amazed by how the crowds seem to grow each year.

Hi
Thank you for your reply, we are both female and intend to have as much fun as possible.

Someone else has said that the hotel we chose was miles away from anywhere, surely not?!! not really sure on budget nothing major, midline I would say.

What are the suggestions for things to do during the day? what will the weather be like? so many questions!!!!

I don't know about "miles" from anywhere, but the Hilton isn't right on the strip, iirc. "Budget" hotels on the strip would be the Flamingo or Ballys. Or Circus Circus if you're desperate (really desperate). Most people enjoy staying on the strip for their first visit.

There are several Hilton Grand Vacations in LV, what is the street address?

Weather is very unpredictable, can be in the low to mid 60's and sunny or colder (50's) with extreme winds.

Things to do, go to the different casinos during the day. Hit the Bellagio's flower conservatory, walk through the Forum at Caesar's Palace, walk through the Wynn, the Grand Camal at the Venetian. if you like animals you can see the dolphins or Sigfried & Roy's garden (wild animals) for a fee at the Mirage, whe white tigers are seen for free. Also the MGM Grand has a lion habitat too.

2650 Las Vegas Boulevard South is the street address, I don't think we'll be in our hotel much and I booked with my hilton points, so as long as it's decent i'm sure it'll be fine!!

So basically during the day you wander through the other hotels, gamble and shop?! when does it all get going in the evenings? should be at the clubs early or chance the doorman letting us in?!!

Las Vegas confuses me!! I cannot wait to go, I love the States and this is going to be a great birthday!!

If you want to visit the "hot" clubs (Pure, Tao, etc.), get there EARLY (before 9) or wait in a very long line. Another option is to get a VIP pass from your hotel concierge, or through the club directly. But if you just show up at 11pm, expect to wait for two hours or more.

Okay, so you're at the northern part of the strip. The casinos aropund that area are a bit older and you'll need a taxi to travel to the further end of the strip, to the Bellagio-Caesar's Palace corner.

The most popular casinos are mentioned above, you're closest to the Wynn and the Venetian. And the Venetian is across from the Mirage and then next to Caesar's traveling south. The Mandaly Bay it a bit of a trek from the Bellagio/Caesar's corner.

During the day I think you'd be best suited to walk through the casinos and the attractions there. Also do check for people handing out nighclub passes at that time. You might want to take a ride to the Freemont Street experience once it gets dark one evening, worth a visit.

Tao is the single most popular spot to see and be seen in LV right now, you can dine there, there's a bar with a lounge, and also a night club.

As long as you're a woman w/o men in tow getting into a nightclub isn't that bad, just again be on the lookout for the guys handing out the VIP passes on the strip. There are lines starting for the nightclubs early, and even if the nightclub is empty it can still take over an hour to get in at 10pm because the clubs want to appear more "exclusive". Even with the currency exchange rate alcohol and nightclub entrance fees are a bit steep, plan on spending a bit if you want to indulge on the top nightspots. $20 pp to enter is standard unless you get a free entrance pass. Jet serves women better (stronger) drinks, Tao measures shots before they go into the glass in the nightclub, the lounge is better.

Ps, there are smut (porn) peddlers on the strip but they generally don't hand things to women but just be aware. The people with nighclub passes generally have clip boards to keep track of how many passes they are giving out.

Finally club LAX just opened at the Luxor with a lot of celebrities paid to be there but I'm not sure how it will be because the Luxor isn't that popular.
