Looking for a quick list of the best las vegas shows.
Going for the first time in April - and want to do 2 maybe 3 shows - trying to find out what would be "The Best of the best"

My problem with planning this whole Vegas trip -- is there is just so much of everything -- how does one choose?

These will give you great reviews and help you with decisions.
You have to read everything you can, think of what appeals to you most then research that.
We stay at the Bellagio, I used their Spa last year. It was wonderful.
The Neon section of the Las Vegas Review Journal has a best and worst list..

www.cheapovegas.com has great reviews of the hotels and casinos.

There is a half price show ticket booth in the M&M World near the MGM Grand. They open at 2:00 and have tickets for that night's shows. They usually sell the second-tier shows, so you won't find Celine or Cirque, but you can get some great deals!

Generally speaking, among the "best" shows in Vegas are:

O
Mystere
Mama Mia
Blue Man Group
Celine
Danny Gans

Each of these sells out pretty much every performance. I've seen Blue Man and Mama Mia and liked both, FWIW.

Loki thanks for your list - it is hard when you have seen a majority of the shows in Boston/NYC. With the exception of Celine & Danny Gans -- but not of interest to a 27/31 year old.

truppidavies, while New York may be the theatre center of the US and Boston is excellent, neither has anything to even begin to compare with Mystere or even less with O. Those shows are unique to Las Vegas and both are in spectacular venues built just for them. They couldn't be performed anywhere else! Don't expect to go to Vegas and see Broadway shows -- you'll be disappointed. But go to see what is really Las Vegas, starting with the two I've mentioned!

Click on the search all shows by date option, and you can find out what will be playing on any particular future night. You can then click on the show name for more detail and, most important, user reviews and ratings. Some shows have 80+ reviews which can not only give you a good idea of what you'll be seeing, but provide good tips on where to sit, whether it's worth tipping the maitre'd, etc. (in some cases, the front rows are NOT a good idea.)

Here, within the same site, is a ranking of the shows based on the numerical scores given by posters of the user reviews. From this, you can also click down to the same user reviews as above. Be aware that some of these shows will not be playing any particular night you are looking at going, and some, in fact, have closed. So you should use this page in conjunction with the date search page above. Also, I would not pay too much attention to the exact rankings on this page--when "Splash" finishes ahead of "O" and "Mystere," you know not to take them that seriously--but gross differences in the average user rating shown should help steer you toward some of the better shows and away from some of the weakest.

Based on your age and access to shows in NY and Boston I would say do Blue Man - its a little out there but a great experience.

We were there Thanksgiving week, saw Mystere, "V" (Variety), and Ovation. Mystere was great, I'd highly recommend it and they say "O" is even better. I also though "V" was good, laughed so hard my stomach hurt afterward. An added bonus was we got the tickets at half price the day of the show at the Coca-Cola ticket center for both "V" and Ovation. Ovation was ok, maybe if we hadn't seen the other two the previous days it may have been better. If you read enough posts on vegas shows, you'll get a feel for the venue of the top shows, I wanted to try Blue Man Group but the reviews are mixed, they say if you don't like loud music (my wife doesnt) you may not like it. For the top shows, you'll need to order soon as they sell out.

FYI - The half price ticket booth has moved from the Coke building to the building next to the Harley Davidson Cafe, about halfway between the MGM and the Aladdin.

The "V" stands for variety, if I remember correct, it is seven different acts (magician, juggling, gymnastics, singing comedian, etc.), there is also a MC/comedian who comes out between acts. The normal price is around $45 -50 a ticket, but there were many tickets to be had the day of the show at half price. You will sit in the balcony though.

"O" is at the Alladin, its a less well done show based on the same theme as "V", the creators of "V" are the creators of it. It was ok at half price, the show was kind of a letdown after seeing Mystere and "V" the previous nights (the young drunk guy sitting next to us continually yelled out disrupting the MC which somewhat ruined the show). One neat thing though, the MC is a former postal worker, during the show, he asked for zip codes and would tell you what town or portion of a larger city you were from (we live in a small rural town and he knew it)
