Two friends and I are thinking about getting together in Vegas over the weekend of October 28-30th or November 3-6th. I have been Vegas before and stayed at the Monte Carlo and they have not.

We don't care where we stay but would like to stay around $100 a night, less if we can find it. I'm noticing that it is very difficult to find rates such as these because the PBR World Championship is in town and I'm sure things will be crazy in Vegas at this time.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? We're fine with staying off of the strip if we can get easy access to taxis and would probably only spend one day wandering around on the strip.

It's next door to THE PALMS and THE RIO, off the strip, but all 3 have free shuttles back and forth all day. You'll only need a taxi really late at night, and it'll be cheap. Only about a mile.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check around more after work.

I was told by a few to avoid the downtown area but I'll still look into it. I don't have any reason not to. We'll probably only spend Saturday on the strip and will be at the PBR even Saturday night.

I would NOT recommend the Super 8 on Koval (seedy area). I think your best bet is priceline.com We've gotten lots of good rooms on this site before including the Luxor, The Westin and Treasure Island for 1/2 price. Be sure to read www.biddingfortravel. com first though so you can learn about free bid zones etc.

I'm still searching and I'm not coming up with much.

The Luxor is $179 and $189 a night during the weekend in October and $229 a night in November which is way out of our price range.

I think the Super 8 might be our best bet because so far I've found rates under $100 each night. We'll just have to taxi to get around.

I'm still considering bidding on Priceline but I need to figure out biddingfortravel.com first to know how to do it.

Try the Orleans, it is off the Strip but only a 3-5 minute cab ride and there will always be plenty of taxi's available there. Someone else mentioned the Gold Coast, that is a good place also but might not have rooms as it has always been a popular place with the "cowboys" when they come to town. Since you are going to the PBR the Gold Coast might be really fun if you can get a room there because alot of the guys will go there after the rodeo (it's one of those little secrets of Vegas).

Thanks so much for the suggestion. That would be pretty interesting if we could end up somewhere along those lines. I might have to check to see if we can expand our budget a little. I'll still be a college student and my two friends just recently graduated and just got a new job so I'm not sure how much extra income they'll have. Tickets to the PBR are expensive enough!

Does anyone know if the drive from Salt Lake City is decent or is it better to fly?

October is a huge convention month in Vegas - there are not many inexpensive rooms to be had. Just keep trying the off strip places, you may find something in your budget, i.e. Orleans, Palace Station, Terrible's, etc.

I found something on Hotwire for $85 a night but it doesn't state what hotel its at and I'm afraid we'll end up with a dive.

Trying 10/28-30, I found a 3.5* for $83 in "Near Strip East" with Suite, Shuttle, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Golf.

That matches the Atrium Suites perfectly, so you can pretty sure that's what it is. Whether that's acceptable to you or not, I don't know.

Don't forget to check that hotel's own website for rates, and use tripadvisor.com for comments.

A 3.5 on Hotwire is more than likely a 3* on Priceline. You have to be very careful with Hotwire, especially in Las Vegas. Sometimes Hotwire's rates are higher than the hotel's own website.

I checked the atriumsuiteshotel.com direct and it's showing sold out for the weekend of the Oct. 28th, so that may not be the hotel.

Due to the ezboard hacker attack the full post cannot be retrieved but you can see the start of the topic. Hotwire offered no savings on that booking.

I have gotten discounted rooms (not from the hotel website) when the hotel website indicated they were sold out, so it still could be that hotel.

I'm curious of the people who told you not to stay downtown - why. It's not the strip, but it's nice enough and safe as well.

Check travelocity they had the Orleans at $118. for your weekend as of July 19.
