Las Vegas In July? Am I crazy?

I've been doing some research for my summer vacation. We have always wanted to go to Las Vegas, but the timing has never been right. Would it be crazy to go there in July? We have done Disney in August (very hot, but plenty air conditioned) and Phoenix in July (really hot, but we survived). Is Las Vegas too hot to handle in the summer?

We've done Arizona in July also and survived. Las Vegas is very hot in July and August, but there are plenty air-conditioned facilities everywhere. If you survived Phoenix, you'll be OK in Vegas. Have fun!

I go to Vegas every July. If you can handle Phoenix, it will be about the same. I like going to the pool when it's plenty hot.

It's HOT -- and you melt between air conditioners -- but, with valet parking and airconditioning it's doable.

You will roast and cook while outside. You don't even sweat because it evaporates from the heat. Fortunately, there is enough air conditioning for everyone. Air conditioning never felt so good as it did when we were there in August.

My crazy sister got married in Vegas in July, and it was indeed as hot as the face of the sun! About 3 AM, the temperature dipped into the 80s and we could actually stand to be outside! Fortunately, all of the indoor attractions and casinos ARE air conditioned, some even a little TOO well!

They define world class Air Conditioning in Vegas. My wife actually carries a light sweater (for indoors) on our rare summer trips to Vegas. On the other hand, outdoors will take your breath away. Like the rest said, if you did Phoenix, Vegas in doable. Personally I would take this over Disney in August anytime.

You should take or be prepared to buy: lip balm, hand and body lotion, lots of bottled water.

I actually love going in July, I've been the last three years in July or August. The pools are great, and the air conditioning always works very well. Last year it was actually a little cool in July due to thunderstorms that blew through.

And let's face it if you've been to Phoenix in July, Las Vegas is easy.

Was there last July for a week - plenty hot - but like others said all hotels air conditioned - you don't feel much like staying outside long unless it is to the pool areas. They have misters (sp?) spraying water everywhere you go outside and boy they felt good - be sure and take your bottled water everywhere you go outside - the sell it on the streets (high price) and also most hotel lobbys offer it for free. You will have fun!

Thanks! I just needed a little pep talk before I booked it. I just remember people in Phoenix saying "it's hot, but it's a dry heat." Being from New England, it was a different heat than I was used to, but it was still HOT!

It's hot, but it's not unbearable, because of the low humidity. I've been there several times in July and I don't even like hot weather. If I can stand it, anyone can.

Vegas is very hot in July, but not as hot as Phoenix. They usually outdo us by 5-10 degrees.

Last July I flew to Dallas to spend a weekend with the relatives. I thought I would never stop sweating. It was gross. (Not to mention the mosquitos that ate me alive.) Anyway, I was never so happy to come back to Vegas and stop sweating, even though it was 10 degrees warmer.

Some of us live here all year long. You'll be fine for a week.

Just be sure to take a sweater and long sleeves. I always freeze there in mid-summer, as they think the answer to the heat is to freeze you out inside so that you won't leave. I have to step outside from time to time just to thaw out.

It's hot - no doubt about it - but you'll be fine. Whenever I hear someone tout the good old saying "but it's a dry heat" I can't help but respond that so is my oven.... that's about how it feels when you walk outside in July. The other posters are right, though, bring a light sweater because the casinos aim for subzero when it comes to the a/c. The nights are usually nice in July but they're still in the 90's - many times the high 90's. Be sure to bring lots of lotion and sunscreen - our "dry heat" sucks out all the moisture from your hair & skin!

I agree w/the other posters - it is hot, we are going in July also and usually go in July/Aug timeframe. We usually hang inside - in and out of various casinos, then go to the pool around 3 or 4 PM. Have a great time!

Our months of visiting Las Vegas are March, August and November. We have enjoyed it every time, the weather really makes no difference to us.
I kind of got a kick out of getting into a black convertible that had been sitting out in 114 degree sun, it was a test of some sort, I think

I have a trip booked to Vegas, July 1-5, 2004. I hope its not too hot for me. I grew up in FL and used to the humid 90 degree temps. Ive thought about going out on some adventures in the desert like Atvs or Mtn biking, does anyone think that would be too hot? Also I may sign up for a 5K 4th of July run in Vegas. Ive never experienced dry heat before.

Bluestructure - Since you say you've never been in heat like we have here in Las Vegas I wouldn't recommend a 5K run in July. This summer promises to be hotter than ever since we're running about 12 degrees hotter than our avg temp already and have been for a couple of weeks now. This weekend it's supposed to be 91! The avg for this time of year is mid-70's. That means by July it WILL be HOT. By hot I mean over 105 and maybe as high as 112 EVERYDAY. The nights get down to maybe 90 but many times I drive to work at 6:30 a.m. and it's 98 degrees outside. I'm not trying to discourage you, just warn you to be careful. Turn on your oven, open it up and lean your head inside and you'll get the idea what it will feel like in Las Vegas in July, then decide if you want to do a run.

My husband surprised me with a birthday trip to LV the last week of June. Since we came from the east coast, it took a few days to get over the time difference (jet lag) so we found ourselves awake by 5:30. Got up, got a good cup of coffee and were poolside by 7am which enabled us to get good seats which we wouldn't have been able to do if we ventured out later. We brought some good books and hung out until 11 or noon. Back to the room to shower and change, and then had the afternoon to wander around, find lunch, play in the casinos a little. We did walk from the Flamingo all the way down to MGM and took the tram to Luxor and Mandalay Bay one day. It was a scorcher but honestly my biggest concern was that my m&m's for my kids from the M&M store would melt (this is about the only kid appropriate place to pick up gifts for little ones!). Have fun!
