Las Vegas in December
I am thinking of visiting Las Vegas for 6 days from the 27 December which means that we will be there for the new year. Can anyone tell me what it will be like there at that time of the year eg weather, crowds, entertainment etc. We were there in September last year for 5 days stayed at the Luxor and it was fantastic.

Weather will be cool - most likely 50s in day, 30s-40s at night.
It will be very crowded and will get more crowded the closer you get to NYE.
It will cost more to stay there - and it may be difficult to get a room for the day before, the day of and the day after NYE.
I stayed there a couple of years ago and it was fun but almost too crowded. I stayed at Caesar's Palace and all of their gourmet restaurants were closed for private parties.
placeu2 - I've stayed for Superbowl weekend (was there this year in fact) and it is almost as crowded as NYE. But it is a lot of fun - especially if u get an invite to one of the many hotel parties.

We've been fo NYE 2002/2003. We stayed Downtown at the Plaza for 3 nights and bought tickets for the Freemont Street Experience NYE's party. We had a blast. Would love to do it again.
We booked in September on Southwest Airlines vacations. Price was about $300 more than for an non-holiday time period. The party on Freemont Street was packed, but we had a good time. The Strip was also very busy. The weather was cold. We wore winter coats and scarfs to walk outside, but once inside a casino it was hot, so had to tote all that stuff around.
The big major hotels will be more expensive and sell out fast. Each usually hosts there own NYE party, which may include dinner/hor de vours and champagne toast. The ticket price will be very high for those types of parties. Most resturants will either be closed on NYE or offer a set menu. We ate at Center Stage in the Plaza before the Freemont party and the menu was set. I called around before booking Center Stage and found either set menus or they would be closed.
During the NYE's festivites, the Strip and Freemont Street was blocked off. Also ,no entrance into any hotel/casino unless you were a guest of that hotel. All entrances were guarded and proof of being a guest was required.
Again, we had a great time considering the crowds and the cold weather. Would not hesitiate to go again during NYE if we can get the time off from work again.
