LAS VEGAS HOTEL SELECTION

I will be going to Las Vegas for my first time in April. Ihave checked out the cheapovegas.com site often mentioned here and have come up with several possible choices on where to stay. At first I had thought that I wouldn't mind staying somewhere like Bellagio or Caesars but have since decide that since I will be there only two or three nights that I really didn't wnat to put out 200+ dollars a night. So what I am looking for is the nicest hotel at the best deal. I have: Bally's at $69, Flamingo Hilton at $55, Treasure Island at $64, Barbary Coast at $59, Luxor at $69 and Harrah's at $45. I have checked out several sites with Vegas hotel Information and have read good things about all of the above. I was wanting to get some further feedback as to which might be the best deal, which is the nicest, which has the best places to eat, ect. Thanks.

First, remove Barbary Coast from your list. Since this is your first trip, I recommend you stay center-strip.

Harrahs, Flamingo, and Ballys are good choices here, but Treasure Island may be better - it's location is pretty good and may be more entertaining than the others.
Flamingo has the best pool if that's important.

If I had to pick one, I'd go with Treasure Island as a final recommendation to a first-timer.

Do you know if those prices include any perks? For example, when I called Luxor, I also inquired if the price included anything. We were then given passes to Ra (their nightclub which normally has a $10-$15 cover) and the spa (which was great to relax in during the day and rejuvenate myself for a night of fun). This swayed my decision, and I liked Luxor a lot. The interior atrium is different and more "fun" than a lot of the other hotels, if that matters. It's a decent hotel with nice-sized rooms. No good restaurants inside to speak of, but that's ok because you can easily walk to another hotel for food. Added plus is that it's part of the Mandalay Bay-Excalibur monorail, so you can hop on if you don't want to walk too far.

Treasure Island has a fun theme, good rooms, and is in a prime location (near Venetian and Bellagio).

Flamingo Hilton is ok, but getting frayed around the edges.

Did they move the Barbary Coast? The few times I stayed there it seemed almost in the dead center of the strip.

No, they didn't move it - It's below the quality level of the others, so I would not consider it.

To Wendy: the price for Bally's includes 2 for 1 tickets to "Jubillee" (my wife wants to see a Vegas revue type show and we were thinking about going to see this one anyway), 2 for 1 cocktails at a couple of their lounges and discounts at most of their restaurants. Prices for the rest were found on the internet and didn't say anything about including anything else.

You can't go wrong with Ballys either. Just so you know, even though I recommended TI earlier, I've stayed at Flamingo and liked it, and I'm staying at Ballys this June. Friends of ours like Ballys and we're going with them so... You will enjoy yourselves whichever one you end up picking!

Barbary Coast has a GREAT location, but it doesn't have a pool, and that's why i'd cross it off your list (since you're going in April).

I usually recommend the Flamingo as the "best bang for your buck" hotel in Vegas (pending other deals available at the time). They have a FANTASTIC location, and a VERY NICE pool. For the price, really can't beat it.

Dave, now that is a better reason for not staying at the Barbary.
Better than misleading information

Barbary Coast has just about THE best location in all of LV, smack in the center of the strip.
In fact, that's one of the only reasons it's still in business, I'm sure.
The casino's smelly and run down and crowded, and the whole place reeks of the 1940's. Yech.
I'd choose Treasure Island of the above options. Luxor second. Skip Harrah's (Motel 6 with a casino attached).
