las vegas-circus circus
Booked a trip in Nov. to Vegas. Staying at Circus Circus. Upon reviewing previous threads I am wondering if I have made a giant mistake. The threads were old ones so I'm hoping things have changed. Anyone?

Let me guess. Are you British? I say that because it seems the vast majority of the people staying at Circus-Circus were booked there by UK travel agents.
I can't speak from personal experience, and I realize you must be on a strict budget to stay there, but the worst thing to me is its location -- so far a walk to anything, and not in the nicest of neighborhoods. There are just so many nicer places to stay and some very good bargains out there. I just got a flyer from Aladdin for $69 a night, for example. Unless they're paying you to stay at Circus, Circus, I would jump at a deal like that.

You made a mistake. Fix it. Orleans is just as accessible to the heart of the strip and a much better deal. Barbraby Coast is better, Monte Carlo can sometimes be had for $59, same with Luxor. As Patrick said, it seems that many UK travellers get booked at CC. Check MGM, many better possibilities...

It's really not that bad. Just remember that it's one of the oldest hotels on the Strip, so I would say it's along the same lines as the Frontier, Stardust, Tropicana, Barbary Coast, etc. Of course it's not the same as staying at some of the newer hotels, which is where all the tourists go to nowadays. Circus Circus is probably going to be overrun by kids as well, but that seems to be the case at most of the casinos nowadays, especially if they have some kind of arcade.

This hotel has not improved with age. If you can get out of your reservation please do so. We have never stayed there so I cannot speak about it firsthand, but going back over the years (we have been going to 'Vegas for decades) it has never been "good".
Start checking all the major hotels, you still might get a decent price someplace.

OK, so what is so bad about it?? So far everybody has said to stay away from it, but WHY??? I haven't stayed there for years either (probably about 10), but I don't recall it being bad at all. But again, that was a long time ago.

I have never stayed at Circus Circus either, but friends stayed there recently and said it wasn't that bad. They had their 7 year old son with them and that was the reason for staying there. The son loved it, of course. Mom and Dad both go to Vegas yearly and said that next trip without son will not be there.
Hope this helps.

We dont know your budget allowance so it might be helpful to hear that.
I was there two years ago with our child. I would never stay there since there are so many nicer places. The location is not good - very far up the strip in a rather bland undeveloped area and away from the things you will want to see.
The hotel is rather dated and lacks real ambience. It really lacks any type of appealing atmosphere and is even hokier/cheesier than most of LV. It is good if you have kids cause it has an indoor arcade and water park but its not something I think adults need to see.
I would look farther down on the strip like the MGM, the Mirage, Caesers Palace, Mandalay Bay (my favorite). The high priced Bellagio, Paris, and The Venitian hotels are nice but may be too expensive.
There are just so many other really nice places to stay that are fun, better located, newer. So, I say dont stay there.

Have not stayed in Circus Circus, but we were at the Riviera a few months ago. Everyone said that was horrible too...but our trip turned out pretty well. Like the Riviera, Circus Circus is dates. It is about a 20 minute walk to the strip...but the new fancy casino(cannot remember the name now) is much closer. There is also a tram to the strip which runs every few minutes. I don't think the area is that bad..I walked alone alot and never felt unsafe. hope this helps some.

One very good friend and gambling "expert" (IS there such a thing?) goes to Circus-Circus continually. She loves it. She HATES the MGM/LUXOR/Mandalay BAY end. And she doesn't go past Treasure Island from the Circus-Circus direction either.Different horses for different course, I guess.
It's as said. Circus-Circus IS dated, and is filled with more kids than the other hotels are. I remember the foot long hot dog paper tubes with remnants lying around the casino etc. etc. But I do think my friend stays there for nothing, is comped for the stay.
Coming as far as you are I think I would go along with the person who said to try the Orleans or Aladdin.
Actually I do think it is not at all far from the new Wynn. My friend likes that Circus-Circus end for gambling much more than the "new" Strip.

I think the location is actually pretty good (but everyone has an opinion of the strip), but my experience was the smell of ciggies (in a non-smoking room), stained walls, dirty bathroom, nasty-looking carpet, questionable bedding, and non-helpful staff when these things were pointed out. That was 5 years ago. I think the casino/attractions are fine, it's just the standard rooms that were dated and, in my opinion, subpar.

I have had a few friends stay at Circus Circus and it is what you expect. It is a "cheaper" hotel, but it is still on the Strip, it is older so it is a little dated, but it will still be clean & safe. Some posters have suggested trying MGM, Mandalay Bay...you can not compare the properties. That is a little like suggesting to someone that has booked at a Best Western to try a Hilton (along those lines). If Circus Circus is what is available in the budget, then I would stick with it. It really is not that bad, just don't expect the Bellagio. In all honesty it is no different than the Exacilbur, just older. Besides, Circus Circus has one of the best steakhouses in town.

It's a normal budget hotel on the strip. There are better places, of course, if you want to spend more. The bus line is right there 24 hrs. Don't remember how far is a monorail stop.
If your reservation is refundable, keep it, check the prices regularly, they usually go down 2-3 months in advance.
If non-refundable: don't worry, go to Vegas and have great time!
