Las Vegas
My boyfriend and I are going to Vegas for his birthday. We were there last May for a couple of days and stayed at the Luxor. We gambled at a few casinos and swam in the pool but that was about it. One of my friends went there and went on a gondola ride at one of the hotels so it seems we missed out on some fun things. What would you recommend we do when we are there next time?

Hi Kelsue -
My favorite thing that I did in Vegas was take a nightime ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris to watch the fountain show at the Bellagio. Watching the volcano erupt at the Mirage was neat too. Best meal I had was at the Grand Lux Cafe at the Venetian, and make sure to see the show Jersey Boys.

omg there is soooooooo much to see and do in Vegas! go to top of The Rio (at night) beautiful sights.(free) and take the shuttle to get there. go downtown to Fremont St. (at night) see Fremont Experience (free)and watch the street shows and shop the kiosks. take the bus, clean and lots cheaper than taxi. Go in Caesars Palace, visit Forum shops and take in "beauty" of the casino. Go to Flamingo (go in back and walk the gardens, beautiful pools and flamingos!) Try to stop in all the big casinos...they all have "themes" - you will be overwhelmed with the spectaular beauty!!...take your camera! then if you have time sit down and gamble and enjoy the "free drinks" that every casino offers. HAVE FUN!! i've been there 17's and still keep goin back!

The dancing water fountains in front of Bellagio are gorgeous! The pirate show at night in front of Treasure Island is fun, but go early as it gets very crowded.Take advantage of the free activity guides that can be found everywhere. You'll get schedules for free shows, plus all the other shows. There are the rides at NY NY and at the Stratosphere. Soooo much to do, so little time. We're going again in December.

There is definitely a lot to do in Vegas. If it is within your budget I recommend seeing "O". It is an incredible show and to me it was worth the expense. I have also heard good things about Mystere, which is a little less expensive but I have not had the chance to see it myself so I cannot give my personal opinion.
My husband and I always rent a car which as allowed us to see a lot of things off the strip. While you may not wish to rent a car for the entire time, renting for one day is a good way to check out some other sights such as red rock canyon or the hoover dam. Many hotels have car rental onsite so you do not have to leave the strip to rent.
If your boyfriend likes motorcycles it is possible to rent one for the day. While I don't recommend driving one on the strip, driving through the desert on one can be a lot of fun.
If you guys enjoy thrill rides the stratosphere definitely has the scariest, plus an incredible view from the top.
I have also always enjoyed gambling on freemont street. While I wouldn't recommend going solely for the light show, there are a lot of low limit table games downtown and you can often find a $3.00 blackjack table. So if you enjoy gambling its usually a fun night down there. Plus a really good inexpensive brewery/restaurant at main street station.
The tropicana has a titanic exhibit and you can usually find discount tickets at the half-price ticket booth. Also the M&M store has a free 3D movie. My husband and I were the only adults in there without children but I did enjoy the 3D effects. If I think of anymore tips I will post them. Otherwise have a great trip!

Thanks so much for all your help! Where is the Stratosphere in relation to the strip? This time when we go we are staying at the MGM Grand. Is the Stratosphere safe to walk to? I have heard things about it being dangerous to walk off of the strip. Also, do any of you know if the Palms is safe to walk to?

The stratosphere is all the way on the other end of the strip so you can't walk there. You can however take the "Deuce" which is the bus that runs up and down the strip. It is $3.00/pp per ride or you can buy a 24 hr pass for $7.00. http://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com/tra...res_passes.cfm Just ask the bus driver while getting on if you would like to buy the pass. The buses are very clean but sometimes very crowded depending on the time of day ect. I have never tried walking to the palms but I have driven there and it seems to be a pretty far walk. I don't think it is too unsafe though. I did find a free shuttle to there from the Forum shops or the Fashion show mall. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/free-shuttle.php I would check this out from the palms first though because I could not find it on their website. Have a good trip!
