Las Vegas w/teen
Will be in Las Vegas for five nights the end of June for my daughter's dance competition. She will be a Senior in high school and we'll be with a large group of girls and moms from her studio. We are staying at the Aladdin (where the competition is) and the group has tickets to Ka. We are considering tickets to Blue Man as well. I don't have a schedule for her competition numbers yet so don't know if they will be during the day or at night. We arrive late Sunday afternoon and leave on Friday. Need suggestions for activities, restaurants, etc. Not too crazy about buffets and it seems that Vegas is famous for these. How is the pool area at the Aladdin? Will we be within walking distance of Bellagio, Paris, and other hotels we might want to see. I am not a gambler and of course she won't be able to go in the casinos.

Vegas buffets are unlike others you've likely been to. It would probably be worth giving one of the higher-rated ones a try. There will be something for everyone there!
Your hotel is very centrally located. For a map, I don't think you can beat this one:
www.vegas.com/map.html
That link also lists the attractions, shows and restaurants at each of the hotels. Other good sites for Vegas info are www.cheapovegas.com and www.lasvegasadvisor.com.

You are well within walking distance of lots of cool stuff for teens.
Check out:
NYNY inside and out. Roller coaster if wanted.
Free animatronics shows at the Forum shops at Caesars.
Go up the Eiffel tower..preferably at night.
Volcano at Mirage at night as well as Bellagio fountains.
Wander about MGM, Luxor, Mandalay Bay if you have time.
Take some of the girls to the Palms because they probably saw it on Real World. Tip: Catch the free shuttle outside of Barbary Coast going to the Gold Coast which is right across the road from the Palms.
Do try the buffet at Aladdin, I haven't tried it yet but will on the next trip, very highly rated.
Go into the M&M store which is close to you on the strip.
If you have a car, drag them kicking and screaming to Hoover Dam..they will thank you later (perhaps much later).
Blue Man is good and you could also take in one of several magic shows.
I would avoid comedy clubs (which may have a 21 min anyway). They feature no holds barred, in the gutter, adult comedy.
I favor the brew pub at Monte Carlo for lunches or casual dinners. I have had my teens there.

If you get up to the north strip, be sure to dine at Grand Lux Cafe in the Venetian.
Within walking distance of the Aladdin, you have Cafe Bellagio (high end coffee shop), lots of dining options in the Caesars Forum Shoppe area (Bertolini's for pizza, Cheesecake Factory (share stuff & save room for Cheesecake), NY Stage Deli and Planet Hollywood among many other choices)....NYNY has ChinChin Chinese and Il Fornaio Italian....Monte Carlo has the Brew Pub and the Market City Cafe....Aladdin Shops area has La Salsa Burrito.....MGM has the Rainforest Cafe (be sure to see the Lion Cubs at the MGM).
I'd bring some breakfast-bar type stuff for breakfasts, the Aladdin Coffee shop is crowded and overpriced, the buffet is not so great at breakfast though there is a good one next door at Paris (but huge and $17).....there is a Starbucks downstairs in the Aladdin if that's your thing.

One more question - I'd like options near the Aladdin for breakfast. This will probably be just me along - I am an early riser no matter how late I go to bed and my daughter is definitely not! I like real breakfast, omelets, eggs and not bagels and pastries. Is there someplace I can walk to and get breakfast for a reasonable price. I don't think I'd get my $$$ worth at a buffet.

I think most hotels have a 24-hour restaurant that is a bit "diner"-ish. We had good breakfast at the 24-hour restaurant at Tropicana, and I'm sure you'd find something similar at Aladdin.
Another option that we wanted to try but never got around to is the cafe at Paris. You can get French pastries, omelets, etc. I've heard very good things about it!

La Salsa in the Aladdin shopping mall used to advertise a $2.95 bacon and eggs breakfast, but coffee was $2.00 additional and juice was $3.00 additional. Still, very convenient if you're right there, and there are a couple of other cafe-type places in that mall including a sandwich/gelato place that may do eggs in the a.m.
Harley Davidson Cafe is near Aladdin, and there's a "cheap" coffee shop in the Boardwalk hotel across the street. The "Carrows" restaurant between NYNY and Monte Carlo has closed.

Thanks for the info. I'd seen the list of restaurants in the Aladdin but didn't realize a place like LaSalsa would serve breakfast fare. I just have a problem paying $15.00 - $20.00 for a Denny's style $4.95 breakfast! At least there is a Denny's close by if the other options prove to pricey.
